Ksnip on chromebook debian leads to black screenshots only

I installed Ksnip on debian and lauched it just fine. However, when I try to take a screenshot of anything through Ksnip, a black thing covers the entire screenshot I took. It appears as I try to take the screenshot too.

@IdlePhoenix1645 could it be that you are running wayland? Can you try portal screenshots Optiosn > Settings > Image Grabber > Force Generic Wayland

I have found the option you are referring to. However, it would seem that the options talking about wayland screenshots and forcing wayland screenshots are greyed out and not selectable

Ok, then you're probably not running Wayland. Strange, haven't seen such behavior. How did you install ksnip? Snap, deb, AppImage? What desktop environment are you using? Plasma, Gnome?

I believe i used The apt get linux command. I am on a chromebook using the debian developer mode.

Oh, chromebook, haven't tested on it. It could be that we have an issue there with chromebooks. Can you try running ksnip from command line and see what output you get when you start ksnip and try taking a screenshot? Best would be if you could test with latest version https://github.com/ksnip/ksnip/releases/tag/continuous and AppImage, requires no installation, just run it (instruction is in ksnip readme).

I ran the ksnip through the command line and here was the terminal result(covered user name for privacy)

Oh, we fail to detect the platform and then fall back to x11 which seems to be not working. Can you run this command in your console and share the output:
echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE

Looks like we have no X11 there and you get by default the X11 image grabber as we are not able to determine in what environment we are running. This requires some extension from our side but without a chromebooks it's probably not going to work. Need to find a chromebook first. What model are you using?

My exact chromebook model is a (Lenovo N23 Chromebook)

Does it come with Debian installed or ChromeOS and you need to install Debian 11 afterwards?

It should set up to the most recent version of debian if you follow the process to put the chromebook into developer mode
Process looks a bit like this
step 1. power on the device
step 2. press Ctrl+refresh button+esc (Triggers a restart)
step 3. get a warning about something, and with complete disregard, press Ctrl+d (might need to press a few times)
step 4. You set up your chromebook again
step 5. It will then talk about setting up your linux environment (follow setup)
step 6. double check in your advanced settings that The Linux Development environment looks similar to the picture below to confirm it is ready

I failed to mention that it is still ChromeOS, but you can use the linux terminal which is debian
