What's new in 0.6.0

0.6.0 fixes two things that did not work properly in 0.5.0 and improves how Word documents with tables are laid out.

  • Mail merge now reachable. The Mailings tab (CSV or XLSX recipient list, recipient preview, Finish & Merge to editable DOCX, one merged PDF, or one PDF per recipient) is visible and works in the desktop app. It was announced in 0.5.0, but the tab did not appear. Sorry about that.
  • Installed fonts really used. Choosing a font installed on your computer now loads it before applying it, so the text uses that font instead of silently falling back to another one, and the false "font not available" warning is gone. Real loading failures still show the warning.
  • Table page breaks closer to Word. Where a table breaks across pages now follows Word more closely, checked page by page against 31 Microsoft Word reference files.

Known limits

  • Two existing Chinese/Japanese/Korean cases still fail the strict WebAssembly-only PDF checks; the JavaScript fallback does not qualify native WebAssembly output. Rare characters can be missing; further fixes are planned for 0.6.1.
  • PDF export of a document with tracked changes can still show deleted text. Planned for 0.6.1.
  • Not checked yet: printing on real printers, installing the downloaded macOS app through Gatekeeper, Intel Macs, and a Windows PC with the new build. The table layout change was tested on Linux and in a browser engine, not yet separately on Windows or macOS.
  • If opening or creating a document freezes the window or uses a lot of CPU on a slower Windows PC, please open an issue with your Windows version, CPU and RAM, the file type and size, and how long it took (no private document content needed).

Thanks to everyone who reports issues: this release exists because of them.
