Security and recovery fixes

  • Install a root-owned protected helper copy. Replacing the CLI or Homebrew source files no longer replaces the daemon executable used by launchd.
  • Restore fans to system control after failed manual writes and keep retrying incomplete recovery without clearing another fan's Ftst gate.
  • Reject non-finite thermal limits and treat missing valid temperature readings as unsafe.
  • Supervise foreground discharge in the daemon. Completion, client disconnect, or missed renewals restores adapter power; failed restoration remains tracked and retried.

Upgrade

Homebrew:

brew update
brew upgrade leaperone/smctl/smctl
sudo smctl daemon install

Signed binaries: replace both smctl and smctld from the ZIP, then run the new smctl daemon install with sudo.

Run daemon install after upgrading. daemon restart only restarts the already-installed protected copy and does not update it. The new CLI refuses foreground discharge until the installed daemon supports safe supervision.

Distribution and validation

The ZIP contains Developer ID signed arm64 binaries for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later. Apple notarization, signature verification, public download checksums, and the automated test suite are checked for this release. Real hardware failure injection and local privileged-helper installation are not part of this release validation.
