v0.3.1

@legsmechanical legsmechanical released this 04 Sep 16:52

Fixes a save bug reported by laurentcommuter: with imported presets, settings did not always come back the way you left them. Factory presets were never affected.

There were two separate causes behind that one symptom.

  • Transpose was never actually saved. It came back only because reloading re-read the preset file — so if you re-saved that preset in the TAL desktop plugin, your saved sound silently changed with it. It is audible, not cosmetic: transpose moves in whole octaves. It is now stored with the slot, and a saved sound wins over what the file says today. The same hole affected two envelope-editor settings, now saved as well.
  • A bank folder whose name contained a quote corrupted the save. The folder name went into the saved state unescaped, producing something that was no longer valid — and the slot fell back to the factory bank, taking the sound with it. Now escaped, and read back correctly.

Old saves still load, and a preset's own transpose still applies when a save does not carry one.

The preset importer, the obvious suspect, was checked and cleared: parsed against the factory corpus it agrees on all 256 presets, every parameter.

v0.3.0

A different editor. The bespoke on-device Bank Editor canvas is gone; Noisemaker now uses the host's own generated knob grid, like the rest of the fleet.

  • The pages match the sound. Osc 1, Osc 2 and most of Master used to be one 19-parameter page the planner split across arbitrary screens, with bitcrush sitting among the oscillators and highpass with the filter. There is now one page per section, and a test asserts that against the old canvas's own bank definitions so the two cannot drift.
  • The Wave knob shows what it is crossfading between. Wave is a single 0–100 control that morphs across ten named oscillator setups, so the number alone said nothing. On a host that supports parameter cards it now draws the two anchors either side of you and how far between them you are. On a host that does not, it is an ordinary knob — nothing to configure either way.
  • Presets first, Preset Bank last. The preset browser is the first page of the editor; the bank picker sits at the end, and choosing a bank drops you into that bank's presets.
  • Chorus / Reverb is now Chr/Verb, and a Macros page that rendered nothing is gone.

Noisemaker 0.2.2

Canvas Editor: the parameter header now shows the full name.

While you're touching or turning a knob, the header reads the same name the menus use — Cutoff, LFO2 Dest, Delay Feedbk — instead of the abbreviated label printed under the knob. The knob labels stay short; there's no room for more on a 128×64 screen.

No other changes; everything in 0.2.0 and 0.2.1 applies.

Imported preset banks moved to the module's own folder, matching where OB-Xd keeps its .fxb banks:

/data/UserData/schwung/modules/sound_generators/noisemaker/presets/

If you already put banks in /data/UserData/schwung/preset-banks/noisemaker/ under 0.2.0, move those folders to the path above.

Updating the module leaves your banks alone. Uninstalling deletes them, since they now live inside the module folder — keep a copy elsewhere if they matter to you.

No other changes; everything in 0.2.0 applies.

Import your own preset banks

Copy folders of loose .noisemakerpreset files (the format TAL NoiseMaker saves) to:

/data/UserData/schwung/preset-banks/noisemaker/

Each folder becomes a bank under Preset Bank on the module's root page, gathering presets from its subfolders — so a pack laid out as MyPack/BASS, MyPack/LEAD, MyPack/PAD arrives as one MyPack bank. Presets loose in the root form a (loose) bank.

No import step and nothing to refresh: the list is rebuilt each time you open the selector, so a folder copied over is simply there. The folder lives outside the module directory, so updating or reinstalling Noisemaker never touches your imports. Both preset formats TAL has shipped are handled, including the 10-item filter encoding used before NoiseMaker 1.7.

Macros

Four macros on the root page — oscillator Wave sweep, Osc 2 pitch, and filter / amp envelope time — with on-screen value readouts.

Envelope time holds a time-independent attack floor, so turning it up lengthens the decay and release without turning every pluck into a swell.

Fixes

  • Delay feedback now reads as the loop gain rather than TAL's raw knob position. The underlying curve put everything musically useful in the bottom fifth of the travel, which is why the tail stayed long at what looked like a low setting.
⚠ Patches saved on-device before this reload with a shorter tail; factory presets are unaffected.
  • LFO 2 destination labels corrected — the engine puts Pan and Volume where LFO 1 has PW and FM, so those two entries had been mislabelled.

Notes

The 256 TAL factory presets are unchanged and ship with the module as before.
