0.4.0 — Failure Explainer

Composition Doctor connects supported DSH plugin failures to the relevant entity, observed composition paths, evidence boundaries, and a manual next step.

What's included

• dsh-doctor diagnose: human-readable explanations with optional bounded file/stdin error logs; JSON and Markdown output.
• dsh-doctor check: the same bounded entry point with an explicit profile.
• Supported cases: duplicate loader declarations, unavailable bundles, missing/invalid patches, unmatched patch targets, peer/version mismatches, and config replacement/override explanations.
• Failure Explanation in the existing Composition Explorer, with related entities and provenance paths. Legacy reports remain readable.

Default diagnosis is read-only and offline. Logs provide untrusted failure signatures; they do not establish runtime behavior or root cause by themselves. Runtime execution and automatic fixes are not performed by default.

Release verification

• Source: final main commit b8b25bf0ea54bcf4455066d40d49f8cffab18a74, following PR #1 and PR #2.
• Final main Hosted CI: all six Windows/Ubuntu × Node 20/22/24 jobs passed. Ubuntu Node 22.23.3: 151 tests passed / 7 optional tests skipped; Ubuntu Node 24.21.0: 153 passed / 5 optional tests skipped. Both Node 24 jobs also validated the official DSH 0.2.0-rc.2 composition artifact.
• Clean final-main export: frozen install, typecheck, test, build, and pack passed with Node 24.19.0 / pnpm 10.17.1. Fresh tarball installation passed version/help, check/diagnose in human/JSON/Markdown, the installed Windows CLI launcher, report export, host export, and browser bundle checks.
• Real DSH Desktop 0.2.0-rc.2 on Windows 11: installation, loading, Settings UI, new/legacy reports, exports, read-only profile checks, restart, disable/re-enable lifecycle passed (DESKTOP VERIFIED). The host's transient /plugins/events error reproduced with Doctor enabled and disabled and was not attributable to Doctor.
• Package audit: 38 allow-listed files; no actual user paths, secrets, private reports, test fixtures, or temporary artifacts. Installed package files match the tarball. The final-main tarball is byte-identical to the Desktop-verified package.

Runtime smoke remains not-run without a trusted OS-level isolation backend; symlink checks may be skipped when Windows does not permit file symlink creation; 0.1.6-alpha.1 is expected-compatible only and is not in the verified release range; temporary directories are not security sandboxes.
