Add a dedicated Compare reader for branches and the working tree. Open a repository and choose Compare to browse changed files in a collapsible directory tree, filter by folder, and read both versions side by side with full document context.

• Navigate changes with a clickable overview and synchronized horizontal scrolling.
• Read syntax highlighting and improved word-level changes, with plain content shown immediately while colors load.
• Switch files with lighter reader updates and cached comparison data; remember the selected comparison pair and preserve reading position on refresh.
• Handle renamed files, file type changes, literal paths, and branches ending in HEAD correctly.

Comparisons use the two selected versions directly, not their merge base. Working tree comparisons include staged and unstaged tracked changes and exclude untracked files. Diffs over 5,000 aligned rows are left to your editor.
