Native Linux build of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond as a single AppImage. Bring your own copy: no Nintendo files are included; the first-run setup verifies your dumped ExeFS + RomFS and compiles the game on your machine.

chmod +x Metroid_Prime_4_Recomp-x86_64.AppImage
./Metroid_Prime_4_Recomp-x86_64.AppImage

The game is installed in ~/.local/share/MetroidPrime4Recomp (set MP4_RECOMP_HOME to use another folder). If you ran an earlier build, its ~/.local/share/MetroidBeyondRecomp folder is moved there on the first start, with your saves, compiled game and shader cache.

Highlights of this build

  • Steady 60 fps in play on an RX 9070 XT (Mesa 26.2): 59.9 fps average, 2 frames over 100 ms in a 5.6-minute session, both right after loading.
  • Fixed: black arm cannon and enemies after cutscenes (lighting updates were never picked up), the magenta flash at every spawn and likely the rainbow screen (unloaded mip levels were sampled), speckled textures, the sun shining through walls, black rocks and sky, the morph-ball box, the scan visor.
  • Shader stutter: shaders are built before they're drawn, with the right variant predicted; indirect-branch shaders no longer freeze the game in new areas.
  • Audio: splitters, cutscene voices (5.1 downmix), sound at real speed.
  • No more slow frame every 5 seconds: the background shader scan rereads only what changed (about 70 MB instead of 300 MB) and runs at low priority on Linux.
  • Sol Valley: the ground is there, without holes, lit and without black tiles while turning (five shader translation fixes: 2D-array texel fetches, mip-level queries, NaN to integer, unwritten vertex outputs).
  • Updates from the launcher: the Play screen checks this page when it opens and offers newer builds (the new AppImage replaces this one after a checksum check; the previous one is kept for Undo). This build is the first with it: earlier downloads need this one fetched by hand once. Needs the system's libcurl (the curl package).
  • Setup takes your game's .xci / .nsp and the update's .nsp directly: they're decrypted with your own Switch's prod.keys (in ~/.switch or where Ryujinx / yuzu keep it) and the update is applied, no emulator needed to extract them. Extracted folders still work.
  • Runs on any x86-64 CPU, Steam Deck included (the first upload needed AVX-512 and glibc 2.43: "CPU ISA level is lower than required"). Needs glibc 2.38 or newer.
  • Renamed to Metroid Prime 4 Recomp; settings left over from the project it was forked from (cutscene skip, fast loading, aspect patches, 60 FPS cutscenes) are removed.
