Any update on the Aspire story?

Was just looking around for an easy way to setup LocalStack with Aspire and found your PR (dotnet/aspire#875) and your POC demo from a year ago.

Was just wondering if its still something you are still thinking about doing, here or in the Community Toolkit? If not, do you know of any other initiatives to standardize/simplify this? Or would you just have to roll your own resource builder form scratch like you did in the demo?

Not meaning to demand anything here, was just wondering since you seemed pretty involved a year ago.

At the very least, I plan to add a LocalStack container suppport to Aspire, hopefully, I’ll find the time to complete it. I’m still unsure whether it makes more sense to do this under the Community Toolkit or within the localstack-dotnet organization. For example, AWS moved their own integrations under their official organization… though of course, I’m not AWS 😄

From a maintenance perspective, doing it under localstack-dotnet feels more practical. I’d be able to push updates quickly whenever the main localstack repo is updated. But I’m open to other opinions.

I’m aiming to have it done by early July. Until then, the approach I used in the demo is a viable option, in my opinion.

As for client integrations, I still haven’t fully decided: should we use localstack-dotnet-client, or rely on the AWS SDK’s built-in support for client endpoint environment variables, which has been available for a while now? Still weighing the pros and cons.

Yeah probably easier to have it here to begin with at least. In the long run if it gets a lot of adoption maybe it makes sense to move it there to spread the load maintenance.

I'll be keeping an eye out for the aspire support when July rolls around. If you keep it here in the organization, would you open a new repo, or would you keep it here in the client library?

I’m considering starting a new repo for Aspire support. The CI/CD process for localstack-dotnet-client is quite complex, and I need to clean that up as well. 😆

Recently, AWS SDKs version 4.0 were released, and it looks like there have been changes in the client factory. My first priority is to resolve that issue. Hopefully, I’ll be able to support both the v3 and v4 series of AWS SDK.

When created the demo, Aspire version was 8, and they were using .NET workloads. From what I've observed, they have moved away from workloads and switched to NuGet packages instead. The latest version seems to be 9.3, and if there are no breaking changes, the demo should still work with 9.3. However, as I mentioned, localstack.net currently does not support AWS SDK v4.

Additionally, if LocalStack has started supporting new AWS services, I'll integrate them as well.
