Sudo v2.3.2
What's new
- Windows: the music pauses when the phone drops off. If the phone playing the PC's sound leaves the Wi-Fi or loses its connection, the PC pauses whatever was playing (Spotify, a browser tab, any app in Windows' media controls) instead of letting it come back out of the speakers. When the phone comes back within 20 seconds, the same apps play again. Linux already did this.
- From v2.3.1: PC sound on your phone works with Windows PCs (Windows 10 version 2004 or newer).
Only the Windows files changed. sudo.apk is the same as in v2.3.0.
Update
Windows PC: end the running Sudo first (Task Manager → Sudo-Service → End task), put the new Sudo-Service.exe in place of the old one, and run it once.
Phone: if you already have v2.3.0, nothing to do. Otherwise install sudo.apk below (coming from v2.2.0 or older: uninstall Sudo first).
Linux PC: nothing changed for Linux.
Checked automatically on GitHub's Windows machines with a virtual sound card: a tone played by another app reaches the phone at its exact level and pitch, also while the PC is muted; the PC is unmuted afterwards; a tone playing in Edge is paused and played again. Not yet tried on a real Windows PC with speakers or headphones: please report anything that doesn't work.
Sudo v2.3.1
What's new
- PC sound on your phone now works with Windows PCs (Windows 10 version 2004 or newer). Turn on "PC sound on this phone" in the app: everything the PC plays comes out of the phone, and the PC's speakers go quiet until you switch it off.
Checked automatically on GitHub's Windows machines with a virtual sound card: a tone played by another app reaches the phone at its exact level and pitch, also while the PC is muted, and the PC is unmuted afterwards. Not yet tried on a real Windows PC with speakers or headphones: please report anything that doesn't work.
Known gap: on Windows, if the phone drops off while playing, the music isn't paused. It keeps playing muted, then comes back out of the PC's speakers when the PC unmutes about 20 seconds later.
Sudo v2.3.0
What's new
- Smoother screen: up to 60 fps, the stream follows your Wi-Fi's speed, full screen, and zooming in shows the PC's own pixels
- Away from home: reach your PC from mobile data or any other Wi-Fi, no account needed (see the README's "Away from home")
- Live typing: what you type on the phone appears on the PC as you type it, with the PC's keyboard layout (AltGr characters work)
- Window lock and switching between the PC's screens on the Screen page
- Media card follows what the PC is playing, live
- PC sound on your phone: one switch and everything the PC plays comes out of the phone (Linux PCs only for now, Windows is not supported yet)
- Linux PCs: installer for Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch, openSUSE and others, X11 and Wayland
- The PC now says why the screen is black instead of sending a black picture
- The app now shows its real version: 2.3.0
Removed: the "Phone screen" (phone as a second monitor).
Install / update
Phone (Android 10+): download sudo.apk below and install it.
- Coming from v2.2.1: it installs over it.
- Coming from v2.2.0 or older: uninstall Sudo first (v2.2.0 also crashes at launch, so update in any case).
Windows PC: download Sudo-Service.exe below. If an older Sudo is running, end it first (Task Manager → Sudo-Service → End task), put the new file in place of the old one, and run it once.
Linux PC: git pull in your sudo folder, then bash agent/linux/install.sh.
The Windows files were built and checked automatically on GitHub's Windows machines (they start, pair, and stream the screen), but have not yet been tried with a phone on a real Windows PC. Please report anything that doesn't work.
Sudo v2.2.1
Sudo v2.2.1
Fixes the Android app closing as soon as it opens.
Fixed
- The app no longer crashes at launch. The v2.2.0
sudo.apkclosed the moment it was opened, on every phone: the release build had stripped a part the home screen widget's library needs at startup.
Updating from v2.2.0
Uninstall the old Sudo app first, then install the new sudo.apk. This build is signed with a different key, so Android won't install it over v2.2.0. Nothing is lost: the old app never got past the launch.
The PC side is unchanged: Sudo-Service.exe and Sudo-Agent.exe are the same files as in v2.2.0. If you already run v2.2.0 on your PC, keep it.
Setup
- Install
sudo.apkon your Android phone - Download
Sudo-Service.exeon your PC and run it once (it auto-starts with Windows from then on; useSudo-Agent.exeinstead if you prefer a window) - Open the app, tap Find my PC, tap your PC, approve the prompt on the PC, done.

Sudo v2.2.0
Control your PC from your phone — screen, mouse, keyboard, files, media, power, camera, clipboard. One-time link, then tap and connect.

- Media sleep timer — "pause in 15/30/60 min" for falling asleep to a movie
- Instant reconnect — the moment phone and PC share a network again, they reconnect (discovery beacon now broadcasts every second)
- Natural scroll — two-finger scroll now matches laptop touchpad direction
- Now Playing card — see what's playing on the PC (title, artist, progress bar) with seek and next/prev
- Voice dictation — hold the mic button in screen view, talk, it types into whatever's focused on the PC
- In-app file preview — open images and text files from the PC without downloading them first; downloads now land in

Sudo v2.1.0
Sudo v2.1.0 — the big one
H.264 video streaming — the screen now streams as real video (ffmpeg → NVENC/QuickSync/libx264 chain) at up to 60fps instead of ~12fps JPEG. Buttery smooth, a fraction of the bandwidth. The agent picks the best encoder your machine supports automatically and restarts it silently if it ever dies.
Pinch-to-zoom — two fingers zoom the screen view (anchored at the pinch point), tap the chip to reset. Desktop text is finally readable on a phone.
Connection approval — unknown phones now trigger an Allow/Deny prompt on the PC showing the phone's name. Approve once and that phone is trusted forever (token-based, prompt-free reconnects). No more "anyone on the Wi-Fi".
Also: new hacker-black >_ icon everywhere, ffmpeg runs without a console window, and the approval dialog got a proper icon.
Setup unchanged: run Sudo-Service.exe on the PC once, install sudo.apk, Find my PC → tap → Allow on the PC once.
Sudo v2.0.2 — AMOLED
Sudo v2.0.2 — AMOLED
- AMOLED true-black theme: pure black backgrounds (pixels off = real battery savings on OLED screens), near-black cards with hairline borders for a premium feel
- No functional changes; everything from v2.0.1 carries over
Setup unchanged: run Sudo-Service.exe on the PC once, install sudo.apk, Find my PC → tap.
Sudo v2.0.1
Sudo v2.0.1
- Unlock removed: recent Windows 11 builds (24H2+) fully block synthetic input at the lock screen — verified exhaustively (SendInput, window messages, and UI Automation all rejected). The feature was cut rather than shipped broken. Lock/sleep/restart/shutdown are unaffected.
Setup unchanged: run Sudo-Service.exe on the PC once, install sudo.apk, Find my PC → tap.
Sudo v2.0.0
Sudo v2.0.0 — new name, new feel
sudo give me my PC — the app formerly known as Rein. Same soul, sharper everything:
- Two-finger scrolling: laptop-style — one finger moves the cursor, two fingers scroll the window (the scroll-mode toggle is gone)
- Unlock power action: types your PIN/password at the Windows lock screen (next to Lock in Power)
- Quick actions in one line: Media / Clipboard / Power rows rebuilt to always fit
- New
>_icon and full rebrand — repo is nowloueylahwel/sudo - Rock-solid reconnect: raced rediscovery — dead network fails in ~6s, live recovery in ~1-4s, no more hangs after switching Wi-Fi
Setup unchanged: run Sudo-Service.exe on the PC once, install sudo.apk, Find my PC → tap.
Rein v1.0.1
Fixes
- Network-switch recovery: the app no longer loops forever when you change Wi-Fi — rediscovery can't crash the retry loop, auto-recovery searches for the PC first (~4s), and a Find PC fallback button appears when reconnects fail
- Terminal/shell commands: fixed a protocol key collision that broke shell commands entirely (they now actually run)
- Rein-Agent.exe now ships the embedded relay too (one exe = whole PC side, like Rein-Service)
Setup unchanged: run Rein-Service.exe on the PC once, install rein.apk, Find my PC → tap.
