GPTK Patcher Tool 1.2.0

@macprotips macprotips released this 02 Nov 03:33

Signed and notarized. macOS 14 or newer.

  • MoltenVK support (beta) for Vulkan games. The library comes with the app, so there is nothing to download. Runs Doom (2016), Wolfenstein II, Detroit: Become Human.
  • DXMT (beta) is now its own tile.
  • Patching in place keeps the app's name and path. Renaming is a checkbox.
  • Warns when a CrossOver update has wiped the patch, or when the chosen toolkit is older than the installed one.
  • One frame rate cap for both D3DMetal and DXMT.
  • Metal 4 is left to the toolkit. The gear still sets it per copy or bottle.
  • Long errors and messages no longer get cut off.

Credits: CREDITS.md. Apple's toolkit is not included.

Update DXMT on its own

The Game Porting Toolkit is now optional, the same way DXMT already was. Choose Leave the toolkit
as it is
on the toolkit tile and the patch updates only DXMT: apple_gptk is left exactly as it
was, with no backup made of it. One of the two still has to be chosen.

The receipt records only what was actually installed, and the completion line names it.

On the command line the toolkit argument accepts none, which requires --dxmt:

GPTKPatcher --cli /Applications/CrossOver.app none "/Applications/CrossOver (DXMT).app" --dxmt 0.80

Update DXMT too

CrossOver bundles its own DXMT alongside the Game Porting Toolkit. Drop a release archive
(dxmt-vX.XX-builtin.tar.gz from 3Shain/dxmt) on the
new DXMT line and the patch replaces lib/dxmt as well, keeping the original as dxmt.stock.
Leave it alone and DXMT is untouched.

Upstream releases ship x86_64 and i386 only, while CrossOver Preview also bundles aarch64 DXMT
for its native bottles. Anything a release leaves out is carried over from the stock folder, so
the ARM64 build survives the swap.

Builds are kept per version and picked from a menu. The swap runs before signing and joins the
existing rollback, so a later failure restores both the toolkit and DXMT folders. Command line:
--dxmt <archive|version>.

@macprotips macprotips released this 10 Sep 05:26

What's new

  • Added a first-launch approval check when CrossOver is dragged in, pasted, or selected with the file chooser.
  • Downloads still awaiting first-launch approval are rejected and patching is disabled. The app explains how to launch CrossOver, finish setup, quit it and its games, then add it again.
  • Re-adding the same app after macOS records approval clears the warning.
  • The same check runs again before GUI or CLI patching starts.
  • Adding another CrossOver from a result screen now returns to the input form so validation messages are visible.

This checks macOS's download approval record. Copies with missing or unusable metadata cannot be reliably classified, so you should still launch CrossOver at least once before patching.

Signed, notarized and stapled.

  • Fixed the invalid signatures that made macOS report a patched CrossOver as damaged, and added Repair Launch to fix an existing copy without reinstalling its toolkit or losing its settings.
  • Changing graphics settings no longer invalidates the signature.
  • Cancelling or failing a patch now restores the original files, settings and backups properly.
  • Patching in place refuses to run while CrossOver or its games are open, and guards against replacing the original.
  • Per-bottle settings inherit correctly, including Off overriding an enabled app default, and Use App Defaults clears a bottle's overrides.
  • Better toolkit validation, import cancellation, error messages and progress detail.
  • The window sizes properly with a long patched-app list.

@macprotips macprotips released this 05 Sep 01:42

Signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple.

What's new

  • Adds an MIT license covering the patcher's own code.
  • Importing a toolkit now keeps Apple's License, Acknowledgements and Read Me from the disk image
    alongside the copied files, so the terms stay with the toolkit. They remain in the library and
    are not placed inside the patched app.
  • Corrected wording throughout: CrossOver already ships a Game Porting Toolkit build, and this
    replaces that build rather than adding a missing one.

@macprotips macprotips released this 04 Sep 19:02

Signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple, so it opens without a Gatekeeper warning.

What's new

  • New app icon: GPTK lettering over a download arrow.
  • The title sits closer under the window controls; the previous gap was too wide.
  • The mode switch tooltip is down to a single line.

@macprotips macprotips released this 04 Sep 18:34

Signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple, so it opens without a Gatekeeper warning.

What's new

  • The app has an icon.
  • An Output section previews the app a patch will create, rather than implying it already exists.
  • The destination shows just the folder until both inputs are chosen, instead of guessing a filename.
  • Softer hover on the two input tiles so it no longer looks like a selection.
  • More room around the title, reworked dividers, and the redundant reassurance lines removed.
  • Choosing a CrossOver that has been moved or renamed now says it could not be found, instead of reporting it as unsupported.

@macprotips macprotips released this 04 Sep 01:49

Stability release after a full review. Signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other app.

  • The first-launch verification now only ever quits the CrossOver it opened, and refuses to start while another CrossOver is running.
  • A failed or cancelled patch also restores the receipt and any config files it had edited.
  • Quitting the app mid-patch cancels and rolls back instead of leaving CrossOver half-modified.
  • Re-patching an already patched CrossOver keeps its frame rate cap and HUD settings.
  • Bottle options: Apply checks for a running bottle first and offers Quit Bottle and Apply; process scans no longer block the window; Quit Bottle looks up processes afresh.
  • Config parsing matches CrossOver's own (case-insensitive, last value wins, comments, CRLF).
  • Remove from List now sticks; apps on unmounted volumes are remembered.
  • A rejected toolkit image shows why; dropping both files at once takes both.
  • Aliases and symlinks to CrossOver are resolved to the real app.

Patches CrossOver with Apple's Game Porting Toolkit: drop in CrossOver and a GPTK disk image, and get a patched copy in Applications with D3DMetal swapped in and DLSS routed to MetalFX. Frame rate cap, Metal Performance HUD and Metal 4 can be set per bottle or for all bottles from the Patched list.

Requires macOS 14 or later.

Opening the app

This build is signed but not notarized, so macOS will refuse to open it the first time. Either:

  • Right-click GPTKPatcher.app and choose Open, then click Open again, or
  • Try to open it, then go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.

This only has to be done once.
