10.49.0 - 2026-11-06

Ghostex 10.49.0 is out. A long chat no longer slows the app down, worktree sessions show under their project, coordinators get a How to use pill and a board you can click, tag and drag, Ghostex pages, forms and visuals get their names, Windows installs from PowerShell, and Ghostty 1.4, VS Code 1.145 and a newer GPUI arrive under the hood.

⚡ Faster and lighter

  • A long chat no longer keeps the app busy: a chat rebuilt its whole transcript whenever the sidebar's order changed, which used close to a full CPU core on a long chat and made a pasted image take seconds to appear; it now rebuilds only what changed.
  • GPUI, GPUI Kit and Zed's renderer are updated, with fewer redundant redraws, a fix for a Windows startup stall, Zed's drag cursor fix and colour emoji on Windows.

🧭 Coordinators

  • A How to use pill in every coordinator chat opens the tips for working with a coordinator, each in its own card with a line you can click to put in the chat box; tick Don't show again to hide it everywhere.
  • Clicking a board card opens it in place with its whole title, latest line and links; ⌥-click or its Mention button puts it in the chat box.
  • Right-click a board card (or its ⋯) for Open, Mention in chat, Tags, Mark done and Remove, in the same menu style as the sessions sidebar.
  • Board cards take the same tags as sidebar sessions, and move between groups by drag and drop.
  • A new On hold group holds work waiting on something outside, while Blocked now means it needs you right away; a thread still not moving after Ghostex's nudge lands there by itself.
  • Blocked has its own pill next to the ? pill, and the Board pill shows only Needs you and Moving.
  • Approving a thread's prompt from its card in the coordinator's chat works again; it had been refused with "That session is not one of this coordinator's threads."
  • The In progress heading in a handover is amber, matching the board's Moving group.

💬 Chat

  • The things agents show in the chat have names: a Ghostex page (gx page) is an HTML page an agent publishes, a Ghostex form (gx form) is a question form or one-click answers, and Ghostex visuals (gx visuals) are charts and tables. Ask for them by name; the old words still work.
  • A Ghostex page opened from its HTML file shows styled, from Files, a file link in the chat, Open in browser or the phone, instead of as plain HTML.
  • A message you send while the agent works shows once, not twice, when Ghostex adds a note to it.
  • A picture you pasted yourself stays out of a closed fold's thumbnails; the row that read it still shows it when the fold is open.

🗂️ Sidebar and projects

  • Worktree sessions show in their project: a session in a worktree is listed under its repository's project with its branch, instead of as a separate project (Settings > Sidebar & Sessions > Advanced, on by default).
  • The Unified sidebar's project header lists its computers in its tooltip instead of showing computer pills.
  • The Working shelf is now called Moving, and the Links panel uses the same light menu surface as the rest of the sidebar.

⬆️ Updates and installing

  • The top bar's Updates menu shows progress: an item you click updates in place with a spinner, the button spins while any update runs, and a failed update turns it red with a reason on hover until you dismiss it.
  • Windows: install from PowerShell with irm https://ghostex.dev/install.ps1 | iex, which checks the installer against GitHub's checksum and skips the browser's SmartScreen warning.

🌐 Remote computers

  • Easy Connect can use Ghostex's own relay (Settings > Remote > Easy Connect > Relay), with Tailscale's public relays as the fallback; computers keep their current address, so no phone has to pair again.

🖥️ Terminal and Code view

  • Ghostty 1.4 under the terminals, built with Zig 0.17.1, with the session daemon on the same Ghostty.
  • The Code view runs VS Code 1.145.0 (code-server 4.145.0).
  • Windows: Claude Swap updates to 0.29.0.

Windows beta packages are not Authenticode-signed and may show a SmartScreen warning.
