CrossNext v1.3.1

This release includes the interface and feature updates from the 1.3 series, together with these refinements:

• Settings: regular option names, smaller visible values and the original heading hierarchy. Category rows match the Apps and Games menus; checkbox controls stay as checkboxes.
• Quick settings: the shortcut picker marks the assigned action with a checkmark and opens on that choice, without falsely highlighting Night mode.
• Library: author groups and alphabetical title headings use regular text.
• PET: a clearer Daily goal card shows the full daily reading total, such as 60/10 minutes; mood badges move more slowly while the egg keeps its existing rhythm.
• Decorate home: swipe left/right to change catalogue pages while keeping the current category and filter.

Also included:

• Choose your interface font: Noto Sans is the default for new settings. Jersey 25, Ubuntu and Noto Serif remain available. Set a general font, override a section, or choose a separate font for each app or game. Book fonts stay independent, and existing preferences are preserved.
• A cleaner interface: consistent outlines, simpler Settings categories, clearer lists and page controls, and improved spacing in portrait and landscape. Home's battery percentage stays aligned beside its icon at every charge level.
• More Home customization: choose how many recent books appear, and use the corrected Framed/Carousel theme previews.
• Side-button shortcuts: assign sleep, frontlight, warm-light and app/game shortcuts to the left and right keys. An assigned shortcut replaces that key's navigation until you restore Navigation.
• Optional four-way reading rotation: keep the usual portrait/landscape pair or enable all four reading orientations.
• PET improvements: clearer introductory information and rules, more readable reading rewards and project cards, larger Album statistics, and better room/background alignment. Placing an owned furnishing returns to Home. Hatched pets stay still; eggs and mood indicators can still move.
• Picross: selecting Mark now places an X when you tap a cell.
• Battleship: a larger board, clearer move reports, a My board view for inspecting the opponent's attacks, and victory/defeat screens.
• The Intercept: expanded character guidance, with Hooper and Harris on separate help pages.
• Flashcards and tools: uniform deck/folder names with ellipsis for long titles, plus layout and typography refinements across study tools and games.

CrossNext v1.2.0

• Reworked landscape layouts across Home, the library, reading statistics, apps and games: larger covers and boards, compact menus and better alignment.
• Improved portrait and landscape layouts for Flashcards, Habits, Counter, Pomodoro and PET.
• Refreshed all bundled dictionaries. Definitions start with their meanings instead of pronunciation and inflection metadata. Bilingual entries show equivalents and category labels in the destination language, with alternatives grouped together. Examples and synonyms remain where supplied by the monolingual source.
• Improved dictionary headers and support for missing dictionary symbols.
• Fixed Pomodoro taps being lost during timer refreshes: Start and Pause respond to a single tap.
• Added a configurable Home-button double-tap interval, preserving the existing default.
• Simplified the end-of-book screen with Home and a return arrow. A finished book can be marked unfinished again while preserving recorded reading time, pages and sessions.
• Improved statistics typography, Appearance dividers, wallpaper fitting and the Spanish finish-book confirmation.

IMPORTANT: The dictionary resources have been updated. We recommend copying the latest files to your microSD card again to ensure everything works correctly.

• Fixed blank information and loading popups introduced in v1.1.5.
• Restored the previous black background and white text while keeping square corners.
• The shared correction covers book and cover loading, dictionary lookups for Define/Translate, save notices and popup progress indicators.

• Mark books as finished. Open a book, swipe up from the bottom edge, choose More → Finish book and confirm. EPUB and XTC/XTCH progress becomes 100% and the book appears as finished in Reading Stats, without adding reading time or pages you did not read.
• Swipe through More. Move horizontally between the reader menu's pages. Swiping at either end keeps the menu open and does not turn the book underneath.
• Consistent square controls. Menus, buttons and reader sheets keep square corners, including installations with an older saved theme.
• A larger optional header clock. The clock now also appears in Solitaire and Hearts. It respects the 12/24-hour format, battery visibility and game controls, and is omitted where there is insufficient room. Outside Home, it updates when the screen repaints.
• Better Home-button input. Improved double-tap handling after Home has been idle.
• Clearer settings. Reading Formats is now Statistics tracking, and unsupported legacy controls are omitted from device and web settings.
• Aligned Flashcards instructions. The Question and Answer examples and their connecting arrow are centered consistently in English and Spanish.

What's new

• Statistics and book progress in one sync. The Sync shortcut in Reading Stats now synchronizes your reading history and book positions without opening each book individually.
• Continue reading offline. Leave the book to save your progress, then synchronize when connected. New local reading statistics are uploaded without counting the same records twice.
• Keep the furthest position. Local progress is uploaded, while a later cloud position is restored on the reader.
• Beyond Recent Books. Progress synchronization includes EPUB, XTC/XTCH, TXT and Markdown in visible microSD folders, including books outside Recents.
• Recoverable interruptions. Partial completion is reported, and you can retry without repeating completed changes.
• Wi-Fi navigation fix. Leaving Wi-Fi settings or closing the control center no longer switches Wi-Fi off.

CrossNext v1.1.3 — Unified reading statistics and Home improvements · Xteink X4 Pro

• CrossPoint Sync statistics. Recover your account history, read offline and upload new reading on the next manual sync. Reading Stats shows one combined history without adding the same local sessions twice. The circular-arrow shortcut beside the battery appears only after configuring a compatible account. Existing reader position sync stays available separately.

• File Transfer on Home by default. The Framed menu starts with Browse Files, Recent Books, File Transfer, Reading Stats, Games, Apps and Settings. You can enable up to eight entries. Existing customized menus keep their choices.

• More balanced Home layouts. Framed uses slightly smaller labels with eight entries and closes the last visible row with a bottom divider. Carousel centers the remaining shortcuts when entries are hidden.

• XTC/XTCH metadata. Title and author are read from the position declared in the file, while retaining support for the older fixed-position layout.

• XTCH in Library. XTC and XTCH now appear with their embedded titles and authors when Library metadata is enabled. This adapts CrossPoint #4023 by Eszter Schuffert. Refresh the Library index after updating to include existing files.

Enable Settings > Reading > Reading Formats > XTC / XTCH to include these formats in statistics. Sessions save when leaving a book or preparing for sleep. A synchronized device clock is still required; time displays in whole minutes may show zero for a shorter saved session.

CrossNext v1.1.2 — PET reading projects and faster navigation · Xteink X4 Pro

• Clear reading goals for home objects. A newly selected unowned object starts at 0 minutes. Requirements are 10, 15, 20, 30 and 45 minutes for the first five objects, then 60 minutes maximum per object. Previous reading totals never turn a new goal into a demand for hundreds or thousands of minutes.
• Reopening the same project keeps its progress. Confirming a different unowned object starts that new goal from zero. Previously unlocked objects, reading statistics and supplies are preserved; an active project can continue into the next generation.
• Quicker PET sections and home selection. Repeated illustrations and catalogue thumbnails can be reused from PSRAM, monochrome artwork draws in ink runs, and redundant section/animation repaints are avoided. Actual timing still depends on the display and microSD.
• Existing saves are supported. Older project counters are brought within the current per-object requirement, while owned objects remain available.

Install or update

For Xteink X4 Pro only. Use the online updater from a compatible CrossNext installation, or the application image for a compatible microSD update. Follow the installation guide.

PET, Reading Quest and The Intercept need their microSD contents. Extract CrossNext-Resources.zip to the card root so /apps/pet/, /apps/reading-adventure/ and /apps/intercept/ are directly on the card. The resources are unchanged from v1.1.0; an already installed complete pack can stay. Firmware updates do not install these contents. Preserve your books and saved data under /.crosspoint/.

1.1.1: fix: improve PET history, animation and date formats

• Previous generations now show their companion. Each PET history card
  includes the illustration for its archived species and life stage, in portrait
  and landscape layouts.
• Quicker PET animation: the frame interval changes from 1.5 seconds to
  0.75 seconds. Menus and historical images remain static.
• Choose your date format in Settings > System > Clock > Date format:
  Day-Month-Year, Month-Day-Year or Year-Month-Day. Day-Month-Year is the default.
  PET memories and previous generations follow the choice in English and Spanish.
• Existing PET saves, reading progress and statistics are preserved.

Update

For Xteink X4 Pro only. Use the online updater from a compatible CrossNext
installation, or install CrossNext-X4PRO-Firmware-v1.1.1.bin with the microSD
firmware updater. Follow the installation guide.

CrossNext v1.1.0 — First public release · Xteink X4 Pro

This is the first public release of CrossNext for Xteink X4 Pro: reading,
study tools, games and a companion that grows as you read.

Required microSD contents: PET, Reading Quest and The Intercept need
CrossNext-Resources.zip from this release. Install the firmware and extract
the resource ZIP's contents to the microSD root. These apps will not start
without their complete, compatible resource folders. Firmware updates do
not install these contents automatically.

Included in this release

• Reading and customization: EPUB, text, Markdown and XTC/XTCH support,
  a cover library, adjustable fonts and reading controls.
• Study and progress: dictionaries, saved vocabulary, flashcards, reading
  history and statistics.
• PET, your reading companion: choose an egg, adjust the difficulty and
  daily reading goal, care for your companion, play minigames and decorate its
  home. Place and remove decorations freely, and revisit its life stages,
  memories and previous generations in the album.
• Games and reading adventures: Reading Quest, The Intercept and other
  games available from the app shelf.
• English and Spanish: interface and PET text available in both languages.

Installation

1. Follow the X4 Pro installation guide
   and choose the firmware file for your installation method from the table below.
2. Power off the reader before removing the microSD. Extract
   CrossNext-Resources.zip on your computer and copy everything inside it
   to the root of the microSD, merging existing folders. The card must contain
   /apps/pet/, /apps/reading-adventure/ and /apps/intercept/ directly.
   Do not leave the ZIP unextracted or add a surrounding CrossNext-Resources/
   or resources/ folder.
3. Keep the included licence notices. The package also provides optional fonts
   and dictionaries. When updating an existing card, preserve your books and
   /.crosspoint/, which contains saved data and settings; formatting is not
   required.
4. Reinsert the card, restart and check that About shows 1.1.0.

If one of these apps shows a missing-content notice, copy its complete folder
from this release's resource ZIP and restart. See the
microSD contents guide.
