What's new in 0.1.2

  • Update checker — Paperweight now checks GitHub Releases on launch and shows a themed, dismissible notification when a newer version is out. Dismissing it snoozes the check for 4 weeks.
  • macOS titlebar redesign — native-style traffic light buttons (close / minimize / zoom), left-aligned, replacing the Windows-style controls macOS builds previously inherited.
  • Windows default-app fix — installing Paperweight no longer wipes out your existing default PDF/EPUB handler. The installer now correctly restores whatever app was default before, so your prior default (and its Explorer thumbnails) keep working.

Features

  • Open PDF and EPUB, in tabs — keep multiple documents open, drag a tab out to pop it into its own window
  • Scroll through the whole document; zoom and fit-to-page
  • Contents / table of contents, when the file has one
  • Bookmarks — reopens the last file if it's still on the device
  • Find text
  • Select text and copy; PDF highlighter and page comments — stored locally, never written into the file
  • Light, dark, or auto appearance
  • Ctrl+P — send to printer (system dialog)
  • Password-locked PDFs — enter the password in the popup to open
  • Optional pomodoro timer

No editing, forms, DRM, or writing into the original file.

Install

Windows

Needs WebView2 (already on most Windows 10/11 PCs).

  • Portable — download paperweight.exe and double-click to run. Can't register as the default app.
  • Installer — download Paperweight_0.1.2_x64-setup.exe. After installing, set Paperweight as default from Settings → Apps → Default apps → Paperweight, or right-click a file → Open with.

macOS

There's no signed macOS download in this release — the app isn't code-signed or notarized, so a downloaded .dmg/.app gets Gatekeeper-quarantined and macOS refuses to open it ("Paperweight is damaged and can't be opened"). Build it yourself instead — it takes a couple of minutes and the result isn't quarantined:

git clone https://github.com/markyip/Paperweight.git
cd Paperweight/tauri
npm install
npm run tauri build

Needs Node.js, Rust, and Xcode command-line tools (xcode-select --install). The app lands at tauri/src-tauri/target/release/bundle/macos/Paperweight.app — drag it to /Applications.
