Guild v0.4.0
Guild 0.4.0
Superseded by Guild 0.4.1, which fixes macOS watcher resource exhaustion with large project registries. Prefer 0.4.1 for production use.
Guild 0.4.0 adds resident daemon support, improves retrieval and concurrent storage reliability, and supports the Homebrew 7 cask DSL.
Changes since 0.3.2
- Resident daemon support, shared sessions, lease heartbeats and recovery, and project file/git watching for staleness signals and renewal quests.
- Module-based CLI and MCP surfaces, explicit lifecycle-hook installation, and optional evaluation, compression, and observability capabilities.
- Retrieval improvements for project isolation, partially embedded corpora, fresh-vector eligibility, exact-title lookup, and keyword fallback.
- Verbatim lore bodies, project-qualified quest search, concurrent writer and index reliability fixes, and embedding repair behavior.
- MCP setup detects existing Codex registrations, preserves HTTP registrations unless replacement is requested, and reports clients whose CLI is unavailable.
- Updated Go and dependencies, release asset verification, and native runtime coverage for Intel Mac and Windows x64/ARM64.
Upgrade and rollback
Stop old Guild MCP processes and daemons and back up both SQLite databases and their sidecar files before first startup. Migration 014 preserves canonical quest records and notes while rebuilding quest search data and discarding old quest vectors; keyword search remains available during repair. Rolling back requires restoring the matching pre-upgrade database backup.
See the retrieval upgrade guide and runtime defaults and limitations.
Install or upgrade
On macOS or Linux, download install.sh from this release and run it with an explicit version:
sh install.sh --version v0.4.0On Windows, use the release's install.ps1 with -Version v0.4.0. The installers verify archive SHA256 checksums; the checksums file also has a Sigstore signature and certificate for independent verification.
Homebrew users can run brew update followed by brew install --cask mathomhaus/tap/guild (or brew upgrade --cask mathomhaus/tap/guild for an existing installation). macOS/Linux releases bundle the embedding model; Windows uses keyword search.
Known limitations
-
A live rollout exposed macOS watcher descriptor exhaustion with large project registries, which can prevent daemon/MCP startup. Temporarily set
[daemon] watch = falsein the Guild config and restart all Guild processes to use query-time staleness checks. The resource-budget fix is tracked in PR #129. -
Claims accepted without daemon lease wiring are not automatically reaped.
-
Sleep passes currently have no production maintenance steps registered; file watching and embedding startup repair work independently.
-
Changing an existing corpus to an alternate embedding model remains experimental.
Validation
Local full race/lint/SQL/docs checks, direct and daemon Docker E2E, native embedded runtime tests, six-target packaging, and a pinned-toolchain vulnerability scan passed during release qualification. Hosted Ubuntu/macOS race suites, all six builds, E2E, and Intel Mac/Windows runtime checks passed. The Homebrew compatibility fix was exercised with Homebrew 7.0.9 and 5.0.0 using real cask install and upgrade operations. Init scaffold tests now isolate host MCP clients.
