This is just my attempt to fix issue #31 with the compatibility shim that exists in matplotlib's
qt_compat, as suggested by @tacaswell.The only other change is to break the lines in the jscm save method consistently with the other calls.
I did a quick test using pyqt4 and pyqt5 and it worked in both (although I'm sure I didn't tackle all the edge cases!).
