MHGU Recomp for macOS 0.15.0 (Apple Silicon)

@mhvuze mhvuze released this 06 Nov 07:37

A native macOS build of MHGU Recomp for Apple Silicon Macs, from the macos branch (the port in morerokk/MHGURecomp#59), based on MHGU Recomp 0.15.0. It contains no game files and no game code: the app builds the game code from your own dump on your Mac.

New since macos-0.13.3: everything in MHGU Recomp 0.15.0, and the app has its own icon.

Requirements

  • A Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer), macOS 13 or newer
  • Your own dump of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate 1.4.0: exefs and romfs, with the 1.4.0 update merged
  • Apple's free Command Line Developer Tools (the app offers to install them)

Setup

  1. Download macOS-MHGURecomp.0.15.0-macos.zip, unzip it and move MHGURecomp.app to Applications.
  2. Open it. macOS blocks it the first time because it isn't notarized: go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, click Open Anyway next to MHGU Recomp and confirm. (Or in Terminal: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/MHGURecomp.app)
  3. The app says the game files are missing and opens ~/Library/Application Support/MHGURecomp/data. Put your exefs and romfs folders there and open the app again.
  4. The first start builds the game code from your files, once (about 2 minutes; a window shows progress). If the Command Line Developer Tools are missing, click Install and the app continues when they're done.
  5. For Local Play, allow MHGU Recomp on the local network when macOS asks.

The first time you play, shaders are prepared in the background for a few minutes (a line in the corner shows progress), so new areas don't stutter later.

Good to know

  • Settings: Settings… (⌘,) in the menu bar, or F1 in the game. Option+Enter or F11 toggles full screen.
  • Settings, mods, cheats, saves and log.txt are in ~/Library/Application Support/MHGURecomp. To update, replace the app; your files stay (the game code is built again once).
  • Bonus content (event quests, item packs) is not included: put a donor save's system file in that folder's bonus/ folder.
