Tidal Tales 2.1.0 — Instagram and TikTok capture
This release adds local capture of Instagram posts and Reels and TikTok videos and photo posts, alongside Instagram Stories.
Changes since v2.0.0:
- Added Instagram post, carousel and Reel collectors and a TikTok collector.
- Added individual capture switches and Pause all / Resume capture controls, saved across browser restarts.
- Refreshed the popup with collection counts and download status.
- Added bounded download queues, download outcome tracking, and richer metadata updates when revisiting posts.
- Improved CSV exports with platform, content type, relative file paths, and download outcomes. Older records remain available and are marked as unverified.
- Added TikTok download referrers and detection of HTML/error responses returned in place of media.
All metadata and media stay on your computer. The existing local database and legacy Story file paths are retained.
Install in Firefox
Download the signed tidal-tales-plugin-2.1.0.xpi asset. In Firefox, open about:addons, click the gear icon, choose Install Add-on From File…, and select the file. Confirm the installation and requested permissions. Existing users can install over their previous version without removing it first.
Limitations and checks
Capture follows data loaded by Instagram and TikTok while browsing; some previews omit media URLs or captions. Keep Firefox running until queued downloads finish and check download outcomes in the popup or CSV.
The 46 regression tests pass using synthetic data and browser API mocks. Mozilla validation reports no errors and one warning about the data collection permissions manifest field. The installer is signed by Mozilla. Live logged-in platform capture has not been re-tested as part of this release preparation.

- Optical changes: Introduced new color theme and icons
- Replaced the interface with a pop-up interface
- Removed the firebase dependency: To improve data safety, all media files and data is from now on only collected using the firefox browser. Media files are saved locally, the metadata can be exported in CSV format.
