Ambideck 1.3.0
More handhelds, more RGB
Ambideck 1.3.0 adds screen-following RGB implementations for Lenovo Legion Go/Go S/Go 2, MSI Claw, compatible AYANEO/AYN Loki/Zotac Zone kernel LEDs, and selected OneXPlayer/OneXFly/AOKZOE models.
- Colours adapt to the available lighting zones: four corners, left/right colours or one shared colour.
- Devices without a native rainbow use one static colour averaged from the last screen colours, with soft white before the first frame.
- Device detection, reconnect recovery and output rate limits keep lighting writes away from screen capture.
- Quick Access shows the detected device and its lighting capability. HueSync handback remains specific to Ally.
Hardware validation is still outstanding for the new backends and output worker. Support depends on the exact model, controller firmware/mode and available kernel interfaces. See RGB compatibility and exclusions.
Validation: 146 Python tests passed (1 Linux-only test skipped on macOS), 66 frontend tests passed, TypeScript passed and the production bundle was verified.
Install
In Game Mode, enable Decky Developer mode, then use Install plugin from ZIP with ambideck.zip. Existing settings are preserved.
Changes: PR #3.
Ambideck 1.2.0
What's new
-
Makes way for screen recorders. While a recorder such as Showreel holds the capture lock (
/run/decky-screen-capture.lock), Ambideck lets go of gamescope's screen stream and hands the lights back (to HueSync's setting, or the rainbow). When the recording ends it follows again within about a second. The panel shows Paused while Showreel records meanwhile.gamescope has one screen stream whose size the first reader sets, so without this a recorder would get Ambideck's tiny frames, or both would share a full-size stream, which can crash gamescope. The README's Screen recorders section describes the lock for other recorder authors.
Fixes
- The lock is checked again right before every connection to the stream, not only every half second, so Ambideck never joins a recorder's stream.
- A recorder that crashed and was never cleaned up (a zombie process) doesn't keep Ambideck paused.
Install
Press Update in Ambideck's Quick Access panel, or download ambideck.zip below and use Decky → Settings → Developer → Install plugin from ZIP.
Runs on a ROG Xbox Ally (RC73YA) with Bazzite or SteamOS 3.8.
Ambideck 1.1.0
What's new
- Follow outside games. "Outside games" is now Off / Normal colour / Follow. With Follow, the rings follow the Steam interface just like they follow a game, and keep following without a gap when you quit. If you had Artwork selected, it becomes Follow. Following outside games keeps the capture running whenever Game Mode is up (about 7 % of one CPU core, roughly 0.2 W).
- Dark scenes. Dim scenes are lifted, so dark games show their colour more clearly. A new Dark scenes setting chooses what near-black does: Glow (a faint glow, as before) or Off (that half of the ring switches off and fades back in).
- Updates from Quick Access. Ambideck checks GitHub once a day. When a newer release is out, the panel shows Update to X.Y.Z; press Update and confirm in Decky's dialog. Decky checks the download against the release's SHA-256 and keeps your settings. Check for updates asks right away.
Fixes
- The light controller is found again if it disappears (for example after the driver reloads), with one log line instead of one per frame.
- Steadier screen capture: buffer checks, evenly spaced retries, and a timeout when the stream never starts.
- HueSync is asked to step aside again when a game starts or quits while Ambideck keeps following.
- Turning the lights off outside games now holds against HueSync, like following does.
- Backend calls no longer block Decky while Ambideck connects to the screen stream.
Install
Download ambideck.zip below, then Decky → Settings → Developer → Install plugin from ZIP. From 1.1.0 on, future versions can be installed from Ambideck's own Update button.
Runs on a ROG Xbox Ally (RC73YA) with Bazzite or SteamOS 3.8.
Ambideck 1.0.0
First release of Ambideck: an Ambilight for the ROG Xbox Ally's stick lights.
While a game runs, each half of each stick ring takes the colour of its corner of the screen. When you stop
playing, the lights go back to your normal setting.
Features
- Follows the screen in any game: four corners (top and bottom half of each ring), or one colour per side.
- Keeps colours alive: colourful pixels count more than grey ones, so pastel scenes keep their tint, and
dark scenes still glow faintly. - Hands the lights back to your HueSync setting, or to the
controller's rainbow if you don't use HueSync. - Per game: switch it off for games where it distracts.
- Outside games: off, your normal lights, or the colours of a game page's artwork.
- Docked: off by default, with one switch to keep it on.
- Settings: brightness, colour boost and speed (Smooth, Balanced, Fast), in Quick Access.
Install
Ambideck is not in the Decky store.
- Decky → Settings → General → turn on Developer mode.
- Download
ambideck.zipbelow. - Decky → Settings → Developer → Install plugin from ZIP.
Tested on
ROG Xbox Ally (RC73YA) on Bazzite, handheld and docked to a TV. Measured while playing ULTRAKILL: about
+0.18 W on battery and about 7 % of one CPU core.
Known limitations
- The original ROG Ally and Ally X use the same driver and should work, but their light-zone order is untested.
- HDR games are not tested yet.
- Steam in Bazzite's Game Mode sends no sleep event, so after waking, the colours return within about 2 seconds.
