A packaging and installation-guide fix for 0.4.0. No library code changed.

  • pip install maddening[all] and maddening[dev] install from wheels again. In 0.4.0 and earlier, all included PyGObject, which PyPI ships as source only, so pip had to compile it and stopped where the cairo and GObject-introspection headers were missing (MADD-ANO-296).
    • all is now every feature extra except usd and streaming, plus the RunPod and Lambda cloud providers.
    • streaming still installs PyGObject, and the installation guide gives its system prerequisites (GStreamer and its WebRTC plugins come from the system package manager).
  • A pip install -e ".[dev]" checkout can run the tests again. dev now includes the verify extra (hypothesis) and the other test tools the suite imports.
  • The installation guide lists every extra, including verify and the development and tooling extras dev, ci and sbom.
  • CI now checks that all and dev install from wheels alone, on every push.

On 0.4.0, the equivalent of all is pip install "maddening[viz,terminal,network,api,surrogates,viz3d,gpu-viz,compression,cloud]".
