Add content-versioned asset URLs through asset_path, configurable static-file cache headers, and independent static_etags and static_timestamps settings (both enabled by default).
Static files now receive SHA-256 content-based ETags. If-None-Match takes precedence over If-Modified-Since; timestamp-only requests retain Rack’s existing behavior. Hashing adds per-request disk and CPU work and can be disabled with static_etags = false.
Fixes and maintenance
Detect Tilt’s loaded template API rather than an incomplete namespace from another dependency. Refresh documentation, including rendered responses with halt, upgrade guidance, and a maintainer release guide. Modernize CI across Ruby 3.0–4.0 and Rack 2.2/3, and add Coveralls reporting. Coverage is 98.76% lines and 100% branches.
