1.9.1: Bug fixes and minor improvements

New in this release:

• Auto-playing videos are now disabled by default.
• Starting in this release, Min will now automatically notify you when updates are available.
  • No personal information is sent as part of this process; if you would like to disable update notifications, you can do so from the preferences page.

Other changes:

• Fixed an issue where single-letter keyboard shortcuts would cause the searchbar to work incorrectly.
• Fixed an issue where Google Drive would fail to load.
• Fixed an issue where full-text search would not work correctly on pages with Cyrillic characters.
• Fixed an issue where the context menu would not work correctly while in reader mode.

1.9.0: Improved content blocking and download management

Since we included a survey in the previous release, we've recieved over 175 responses - thank you to everyone that participated! You can view the results of the survey here, and if you haven't filled out the survey yet, there's still time to do so. Some of the suggestions we recieved have already been incorporated in 1.9, and we'll continue to make changes based on your feedback in the next release.

With that in mind, here's what's new in this release:

Improved content blocking

Min has always had the ability to block trackers and ads, helping to speed up your web browsing and making it harder for sites to track you across the web. However, it wasn't always easy to figure out how to enable this option, or to control what would be blocked. Starting in this release, Min will block third-party ads and trackers by default, helping to protect your privacy and making pages load significantly faster. To test this, we loaded a selection of news websites in Min 1.8 and 1.9 with third-party content blocking; on average, enabling content blocking makes sites load 2x faster.

If you turned on content blocking in a previous version of Min, all ads and trackers will continue to be blocked, just as they were before. In this release, we've also made the content blocker even faster, and added an option to disable content blocking on certain websites if you choose.

Download manager

Min now includes a way to manage downloads - one of the most-requested features in our recent survey. When you start downloading a file, a bar will appear at the bottom of the window, allowing you to view the progress of a download or cancel it. Once the file is finished downloading, you can open the file directly from Min, or drag-and-drop it to move it to a different location.

Other changes

• Improved search: full-text search results are now more accurate, appear more frequently in search results, and take up less storage space.
• Made it easier to see which tab is selected.
• Rearranged the view menu to make it easier to access bookmarks and history.
• Improved reader mode formatting.
• The reader mode button now appears more quickly while the page is loading.
• Tabs now extend to the top of the window when it is maximized.
• Min now uses the same user agent as Chrome for improved site compatibility.
• Phishing detection has been removed due to low accuracy and a high number of false-positives.
• Sandboxing is now enabled on Windows and macOS (Linux support coming soon).
• Upgraded to Electron 4.0.4/Chromium 69.

Bug fixes:

• Printing an article from reader view now works correctly.
• Fixed swipe gestures triggering incorrectly when scrolling horizontally.
• The tab bar now scrolls to show the new tab when opening a tab in the background.
• Attempting to launch a second instance of Min now switches back to the first instance correctly.

1.8.1: Security fix

• Updated Electron to fix a security issue.

1.8.0: Userscripts and custom search engines

In this release, we've been working on reorganizing Min's code into modules and switching to BrowserViews instead of webviews, so there are fewer changes than usual. However, we've still added a couple of new features:

Userscripts

Userscripts allow you to create scripts that run whenever a page is loaded, allowing you to modify their behavior. To create a userscript, first enable the option on the settings page:

Then follow these instructions to create a script.

Custom search engines

Starting in this release, you can choose a search engine that isn't one of the options that is already included. To do this, choose the "custom" option on the settings page, and enter the URL of the search engine you want to use.

• The back button is now dimmed when there is no page to go back to (by @revolter)

• An error message is now shown when you try to run multiple instances of Min at the same time (by @revolter)
• Improved the accuracy of scroll gestures.
• The correct URL is now shown when you open the searchbar while an error page is being displayed.
• Reduced the amount of storage space used by the search index.
• Upgraded to Chromium 66 / Electron 3.0.

1.8.0-beta1

This is a beta release of 1.8.0.

Before installing this release, you should make a backup of your existing profile folder, so that you can downgrade to an earlier version if necessary. This folder will be located in the following places:

• ~/library/application support/min on macOS
• \users\<your username>\appdata\roaming\min on Windows
• /home/<your username>/.config/min on Linux

New features in this release include:

• Added support for user scripts.
• Added the ability to set a custom search engine.
• Added additional languages.
• Bug fixes.

A full list of changes will be available when the final version of 1.8 is released.

If you see an issue with this release, please create an issue so it can be fixed before the final release!

1.7.1: Bug fixes and minor improvements

1.7.0: Back button, progress bars, redesigned PDF viewer, new languages, and more

This is one of our largest releases ever, with a bunch of new features and tons of bug fixes. Thank you to all the people who contributed to this release! The notes below give an outline of what's changed; you can see the complete changelog here.

Important note: Once you upgrade to 1.7.0, you will not be able to downgrade back to an earlier version without losing data. If you think you might want to downgrade, you should make a backup copy of your profile folder before upgrading.

What's new in this release

Redesigned PDF Viewer

The PDF viewer (based on PDF.js) has gotten a redesign. It's now faster, has a design that fits better with the rest of the browser, and supports printing, saving, and find-in-page.

Back button (by @SpecialBomb)

Starting in this release, there's finally a back button! If you're used to the swipe gestures and want to turn it off, we've also added an option for that to the settings page.

Progress bars (by @danfragoso)

When a page is taking too long to load, a progress bar will now show up at the top of the tab so that you know the page is still loading.

[beta] Windows UI

With the help of @ProPuke, we've added a new UI for Windows that looks better, takes up less space, and fits in better with other applications. Please try it out, and file issues if you notice any problems!
