Saltbush 0.6
Search now shows its reach: every match in the document is highlighted and counted ("3 of 27"), starting from the page you're on. Return or ⌘G goes to the next match and ⇧Return or ⇧⌘G to the previous, including while you're still typing in the search bar.
Download Saltbush.zip, unzip, and drag Saltbush.app into Applications. Signed and notarized by Apple; macOS 14 or later, Apple Silicon or Intel.
Saltbush 0.5
Citation links are now precise: the pointer, the reference preview and clicks respond only to the citation's own text, not to the padding many PDFs put around links. Pressing on a citation and dragging now selects text instead of following the link; a plain click still follows it.

Saltbush 0.4
Adds a page number in the bottom-right corner. It's on by default, fades away while the pointer is over it, and p switches it off or on.

Saltbush 0.3
Folio is now Saltbush, named after the silvery grey-green shrub of the Australian inland, which is also the new colour around the pages.
Download Saltbush.zip, unzip, and drag Saltbush.app into Applications. It runs on macOS 14 or later, Apple Silicon or Intel, and it's signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other app. If you had Folio, you can drag it to the Trash; Saltbush picks up its remembered positions and settings, and your highlights and notes live in the PDFs themselves.
Also since 0.1: arrow-key navigation, ⌘[ / ⌘] between places you've jumped to, a shortcuts sheet (press ?), reference previews on hover, notes in margin circles, Markdown export of highlights and notes (e / ⇧⌘E), and sepia and night themes (b). See the README.
Folio 0.2
Download Folio.zip, unzip, and drag Folio.app into Applications. It runs on macOS 14 or later, Apple Silicon or Intel.
New in 0.2:
- Arrow keys and space move through pages; ⌘[ and ⌘] go back and forward between places you've jumped to.
- A sheet of every keyboard shortcut on first launch, and on ? at any time.
- Hover over a citation or footnote to preview what it points to.
- Notes sit in a circle in the margin; select, press h to highlight and n to add a note.
- e copies all highlights and notes as Markdown; ⇧⌘E saves them to a file.
- Sepia and night themes (b).
This build is signed but not yet notarized by Apple, so the first time you open it go to System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. A notarized copy will replace it shortly. See the README for details.
Folio 0.1
First release. Download Folio.zip, unzip, and drag Folio.app into Applications. It runs on macOS 14 or later, Apple Silicon or Intel.
Folio isn't signed with an Apple developer certificate, so the first time you open it, go to System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. The README has details and the full list of keyboard shortcuts.
