Yaad v1.1

Choose a tag to compare

@mr-ans-2006 mr-ans-2006 released this 01 Nov 05:15

A redesign with two new tabs and smooth animations.

What's new

  • New look: soft neo-brutalist design with thin outlines, one hard shadow only on the main elements, and colour only on tags. Light and dark mode.
  • Inter font everywhere. The pixel font (Pixelify Sans) and Space Grotesk are gone.
  • Search tab: a clean screen with just the search box and your recent searches. Results appear as you type.
  • Folders tab: screenshots sorted by their auto-tags (Code, Tools, Places, Study, Hacks, Shopping, Quotes, Chats), plus All, Untagged and No text. Inside a folder they're in a grid, newest first, grouped by date.
  • Animations: opening a screenshot, the thumbnail grows into the full image and shrinks back on Back. Screens fade and slide gently, and list items animate in and out. Android's "Remove animations" setting is respected.
  • Still no internet permission.

Install
Download Yaad-v1.1.apk below. It installs over v1.0 (same signing key) and keeps your library.

Android 8.0+ on a 64-bit (arm64) phone.

Yaad v1.0

@mr-ans-2006 mr-ans-2006 released this 31 Oct 11:00

Yaad v1.0 — never lose a screenshot again

Yaad (یاد, "memory") automatically picks up your new screenshots, reads the text in them on your phone, and lets you search them by meaning, not just exact words.

Private by design: no internet permission, no account, no server. Nothing leaves your phone.

Install

  1. Download Yaad-v1.0.apk below.
  2. Open it. If Android asks, allow "Install unknown apps" for your browser/files app.
  3. Open Yaad, allow access to photos, and it imports your screenshots.
  4. Follow the in-app battery guide for your phone brand (Samsung, Xiaomi/Redmi/POCO, Vivo, Infinix/Tecno, Oppo/Realme/OnePlus, Pixel) so new screenshots keep getting picked up.

Good to know

  • Android 8.0+ (arm64; almost all phones from ~2017 on). English text only in v1.
  • Tested with 66 automated tests and rendered screens; real-phone testing is just starting, so please open an issue if something breaks.
  • The battery guide's shortcut buttons follow each brand's known settings pages, which vary by OS version. If a button lands on a general page, follow the written steps.
  • Text recognition uses Google's free offline ML Kit, which runs on-device but is not open source. Everything else is MIT-licensed.
