If you already have Locker Manager installed, you do not need to download anything: it updates itself.

First time opening it

Locker Manager is free and open source, and is not yet registered with Apple or Microsoft, so the first time you open it your computer shows a one-off "unrecognised app" warning. The app is safe and runs entirely on your own computer. Here is exactly what to click.

On Windows

  1. Run the downloaded Locker-Manager-Setup file. If your browser asks, choose Keep.
  2. If a blue "Windows protected your PC" screen appears, click the small More info link.
  3. Click Run anyway, then follow the installer.

On a Mac

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg and drag Locker Manager into Applications.
  2. Open Locker Manager from Applications once. macOS will say it cannot check it and offer only Done. Click Done.
  3. Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom and click Open Anyway, then Open Anyway again.
  4. You only do this once. After that, open it like any other app.

On a Mac, until the app is signed with an Apple certificate, it tells you when a new version is out and opens this download page; you install the new version over the old one. On Windows, updates install themselves.

What's new in 0.8.0

Locker Manager now has its guide built in (click Guide at the top: search it, and click Show me to go straight to the screen), a Needs attention list on Home with a button to fix each item, and a way to practise on a copy of your file without risk. Schools can protect codes with a PIN, choose how long codes stay on screen, and share their whole set-up with another school in one settings file. On each computer you can choose light or dark, text up to 200% and high contrast, and whether updates install by themselves. School IT can lock settings with a managed settings file. Every screen passes automatic accessibility checks in light and dark mode.
