[0.5.0-beta2] - 2026-10-08

Added

  • Startup Version Checking:
    • Automatically queries the GitHub Releases API on startup to notify users when a new version of InkAnim is available (#109).
    • Includes a "Remind Me Later" (24-hour snooze) and "Skip This Version" functionality directly in the update modal (#109).
    • Seamlessly integrated into both the native desktop Studio and the Inkscape Extension UI (#109).
  • Undo and Redo in Motion Editor:
    • Full bidirectional undo and redo history for all motion edits, including adding and deleting motion directives, adjusting timing and playback properties, applying motion presets, and renaming object label prefixes (#103).
    • Dedicated Undo and Redo toolbar icon buttons placed directly above the document object tree in the Layers & Motion panel (#103).
    • Standard keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Z for undo, Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y for redo) (#103).
    • Smooth text and numeric editing with real-time live preview updates, coalescing input sequences into clean single undo steps upon pressing Enter or changing field focus (#103).
    • Status bar feedback displaying the specific action that was undone or redone, and automatic clean state restoration when all changes are undone back to the initial document (#103).
  • Element Deletion in Motion Editor:
    • Ability to delete drawing elements, shapes, and motion anchors directly from the Motion Editor inspector or by pressing the Delete key (#102).
    • Groups and layers can be safely deleted once emptied, with protective validation preventing accidental deletion of non-empty groups or elements containing definitions (#102).
    • Clean XML byte-splicing that preserves surrounding SVG formatting, line endings, and comments without re-serializing untouched document content (#102).
    • Fully integrated with Undo and Redo (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y), instantly restoring deleted elements and their animations (#102).
  • Copy and Paste Motion Directives in Motion Editor:
    • Copy all motion directives from the selected element or copy individual directive cards directly to the system clipboard (#104).
    • Paste motion directives onto another element, appending directives to animated shapes or automatically generating centered motion anchors for groups and un-animated drawing elements (#104).
    • Intelligent object pivot recreation: when copying directives referencing an object pivot, a matching pivot object is automatically created at the measured location within the target's group, keeping motion decoupled across layers (#104).
    • Standard plaintext IAMS clipboard format allowing easy sharing and manual editing outside the application (#104).
    • Edit menu items and standard keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V), respecting focused text fields without interfering with text input (#104).
    • Fully integrated with Undo and Redo (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y), rolling back pasted directives and auto-created pivots in a single step (#104).

Changed

  • Animation Frame Model Nomenclature:
    • Renamed pkg/inksvg.Layer to pkg/inksvg.Frame and SVGDocument.Layers to SVGDocument.Frames to clearly distinguish synthetic animation timeline frames from Inkscape SVG layers (#105).
    • Added SVGDocument.FrameCount() helper method for clean, direct frame count reads (#105).
    • Renamed Session.Layers to Session.Frames, ToggleLayerActive to ToggleFrameActive, and MoveLayer to MoveFrame in internal/app (#105).
    • Updated user-facing UI messages in native GUI and WebAssembly builds to report frame counts rather than layers (#105).
  • Web Landing Pages:
    • Toned down marketing pronouns ("we/us/our") in favor of more direct, objective documentation phrasing.

Fixed

  • Motion Editor Close Confirmation & Change Tracking:
    • Fixed an issue where closing the Motion Editor after applying presets (such as auto-generated group anchors) closed without prompting, losing changes in Inkscape (#101).
    • Ensured documents open in a clean state on launch without false-positive change prompts when closing unedited files (#101).
    • Added change history tracking to document inspector actions in the status bar (#101, #103).
  • Windows System Fonts with 8.3 Short Filenames:
    • Resolved an issue where standard Windows fonts using historical 8.3 short filenames (e.g. FRAHV.TTF for Franklin Gothic Heavy, GOTHIC.TTF for Century Gothic, GARA.TTF for Garamond) failed to resolve and silently fell back to DejaVu Sans (#78).
    • Implemented fast native Windows font registry scanning to map typographic names to disk files without disk I/O overhead (#78).
    • Added cross-platform SFNT name table extraction fallback discovering NameIDFamily, NameIDTypographicFamily, and NameIDFull from binary font headers for non-registry and custom font locations (#78).
  • Scaled and Transformed Motion Paths:
    • Fixed an issue where motion paths (such as spirals or splines) scaled, rotated, or transformed in Inkscape caused animated objects to follow the original unscaled trajectory instead of the visible shape (#106).
    • Motion trajectory preview guides and travel distances now accurately reflect scaled and transformed guide paths (#106).
  • Clean Document Preservation on Extension Exit:
    • Ensured that opening the Motion Editor and clicking "Apply Changes" or closing without making modifications does not falsely mark the Inkscape document as modified (#107).
  • Motion Editor Split Pane Stability & Inspector Layout:
    • Fixed an issue where adding or pasting multiple motion directives onto an element caused the inspector pane to expand horizontally and collapse the Objects tree into a narrow sliver (#108).
    • Removed redundant unwrapped debug label at the bottom of the inspector in favor of the per-card IAMS previews, tree hierarchy, and status bar (#108).
    • Flattened redundant nested scroll containers in the sidebar for smoother, more stable pane navigation (#108).
