Portty is a small command-line tool to securely share a terminal with a paired phone. This release ships the two command-line programs — portty (wrap and share a terminal) and portty-host (the paired-device host daemon) — for Windows, Linux and macOS.
Update the Portty phone app too. v0.1.3 uses a newer connection protocol. It works with the current Portty app; older phone app builds cannot connect to it, and v0.1.2 and earlier cannot connect to the current app. Update both sides together.
What's new
Pairing: no more PIN
- Run
portty pair, then scan the QR (or paste the ticket) in the app. Both screens show the same six-digit code: check that they match and answeryin theportty pairterminal. - Starting
portty-hostno longer opens pairing or prints any pairing material.portty pairis the only way to add a phone. - The typed pairing phrase is now six words.
Security
- Pairing and reconnects were hardened: pairing finishes atomically, a reconnect is bound to the token it authenticated with, and a replaced connection is fully torn down.
- File transfers and approvals are bound to the pairing they came from.
- A revoked phone can no longer get its push wake-up back.
- Credentials are stored durably on Windows, and a credential folder owned by another user is refused.
- The local terminal token no longer appears in service logs.
- Agent auto-approval no longer applies when the host's workspace is a broad folder such as your home directory, and an agent action with no input is never auto-approved.
Agents
- The phone can resume a conversation that the agent's own CLI started, and no longer replays one it has already shown.
- The host reports which agents are installed before you pick one.
- Updated to Agent Client Protocol 2.0.
Terminal
- Phone terminals open in the workspace (or your home folder), and you can choose the folder from the phone.
Windows fixes
- Agents installed through npm (
.cmdlaunchers) now start. portty-host stopandportty-host revokework again, andportty-host -dno longer reports a false failure after starting.- A force-killed host is no longer reported as still running.
- Ending a session no longer leaks a reader thread.

A note on security warnings
These binaries are not yet code-signed. On Windows, double-clicking portty.exe may show a SmartScreen warning; running it from a terminal (PowerShell / Windows Terminal) does not. On macOS, a browser-downloaded binary may be blocked by Gatekeeper until you allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security; Homebrew installs are not affected. Verify the SHA-256 hash above and you can trust the download.
