Mega Man X 2.3.12 - local independent co-op screens

Choose a tag to compare

@mstan mstan released this 01 Nov 22:02
bc2894b

Add Local co-op display ? Side by side (Experimental) under Mods ? Characters ? Co-op.

  • Each player gets an independent camera and HUD in the same local game, with 5:4 + 5:4 as the default pane ratio.
  • Widescreen applies to each pane; Adaptive fits the two views to the window.
  • P2 now retains the native camera dead zones and gradual room pans, including the transition after Bee Blader is defeated.
  • Shared menus and story scenes retain the existing co-op behavior. Local layout and netplay camera preferences remain separate.
  • Preserves the bounded diagnostic DSP capture fix from 2.3.11.

Enable co-op with your own original Mega Man X3 (USA) ROM for Zero, select the local display mode, and start or restart the game. The package includes the local-mode guide. ROMs are not included.

Mega Man X 2.3.11 - diagnostic capture fix

Choose a tag to compare

@mstan mstan released this 01 Nov 03:31

Fix diagnostic DSP audio recording after reset or a save-state load (snesrecomp #233). When SNESRECOMP_DSPOUT is enabled, the recorder now tracks timeline changes, bounds ring reads, excludes speculative frames, and fails the capture run on output errors. Normal gameplay and playback do not use this recorder.

This Windows x64 hotfix retains the prior release engine and feature selections, plus the capture fix. Keep native saves and settings when updating. Host save states are build-specific. Supply your own supported ROM.

Mega Man X 2.3.10 - shared native/HLE package

Choose a tag to compare

@mstan mstan released this 30 Oct 05:24

Windows refresh of the owner-approved SNES native/HLE optimization package, pinned to merged engine cc095ad4.

Includes the qualified native raster, row/background span work and shared audio, memory-read and scheduling helpers. Existing gameplay, Magic Carpet behavior, user settings and opt-in widescreen behavior are preserved.

Validation: fresh supported regeneration/build; generated guest code identical to the approved build; extracted-package default startup; exact widescreen image, WRAM, VRAM and CGRAM comparison; current-build save/load. The source defaults and other dependency pins are unchanged.

Supply your own supported ROM. Preserve native saves and settings when updating. Host save states are build-specific.

Mega Man X 2.3.9

@mstan mstan released this 29 Oct 01:56

Fixes the first Highway Gun Volt firing lightning while its body is invisible during an early widescreen approach.

This release also includes the approved widescreen background batching and shared rendering-memory improvements. Learner Mode and the other 2.3.8 features are retained. Optional mods keep their existing defaults.

Validated with the native and row-plan regression suites, all four Magic Carpet variants, render rollback, current-build save/load and a fresh-process load. The owner approved the X1 gameplay build; the packaged current-main integration reproduces the same guest inputs and repaired scene pixels.

Windows x64: extract the ZIP and launch MegaManXSNESRecomp.exe. Supply your own supported Mega Man X ROM. ROMs, extracted donor-ROM assets, saves and private settings are not included.

Mega Man X 2.3.8

@mstan mstan released this 28 Oct 19:30
b700c64

Adds Player 2 Learner Mode to the Mods list, disabled by default: a forgiving co-op partner for younger or new players.

  • Player 2 cannot lose health or die. Enemy hits still knock them back; pits, spikes and falling behind off-screen beam them back in beside Player 1, who never waits for them.
  • The camera follows Player 1 only. Player 2 cannot pause, open doors, board Ride Armor or take over the stage. If Player 1 falls, the stage restarts as in single player.
  • Turning Learner Mode on turns X / Zero Co-op on with it. Player 2's health bar is hidden unless Show Player 2 health bar is ticked.

Also includes the qualified Windows x64 whole-view rendering path merged since 2.3.7.

Learner Mode has passed automated checks for pits, enemy contact, fatal states, being left behind, pause and withdrawal ownership and Player 1's death. Doors, Ride Armor, capsules and story scenes with a learner are still being playtested.

Windows x64: extract the ZIP and launch MegaManXSNESRecomp.exe. Enable Player 2 Learner Mode under Mods. Supply your own supported Mega Man X ROM and the Mega Man X3 ROM that co-op uses; ROMs and extracted assets are not included.

Mega Man X 2.3.7

@mstan mstan released this 28 Oct 03:39

Adds X2 / X3 Armor (experimental) to the Mods list, disabled by default.

  • Choose Mega Man X2 or X3 in the Armor dropdown and provide your own USA ROM for that game. X starts with the donor game's appearance and basic dash; X1's capsules unlock the matching donor armor pieces and abilities.
  • X3's Hadouken capsule reward also grants Gold Armor and its enhancements. Four ordinary armor parts remain standard X3 armor.
  • Preserve the donor armor through pause and unpause, display it in the weapons menu, and render the complete X3 maximum-charge shots.
  • Update the original health bar as Gold Armor heals while standing still, then fill owned Sub Tanks once health is full.

The armor mod has passed preliminary owner playtests and automated regression checks. It remains experimental while broader gameplay coverage continues.

Windows x64: extract the ZIP and launch MegaManXSNESRecomp.exe. Enable X2 / X3 Armor (experimental) under Mods to try it. Supply your own supported Mega Man X ROM and selected donor ROM; ROMs and extracted donor assets are not included.

Mega Man X 2.3.6

@mstan mstan released this 27 Oct 18:00

This release brings the native runtime improvements and the final co-op graphics fixes together.

  • Improve audio scheduling and widescreen rendering performance while preserving hardware-dependent behavior and portable fallback implementations.
  • Fix Storm Tornado tile placement and corrupted Chameleon Sting graphics, including co-op shots.
  • Extend Chill Penguin's blizzard across the full selected or adaptive screen width, including Boss Rush.
  • Keep X in front of Zero where their sprites overlap, including Saber Zero.

Validated with the owner's X + Saber Zero co-op/Boss Rush playtest, eight renderer/Magic Carpet regression checks, and a 600-frame recorded gameplay replay with matching guest-state checkpoints.

Windows x64: extract the ZIP and launch MegaManXSNESRecomp.exe. Supply your own supported Mega Man X ROM; no ROM is included.

v2.3.3 - Co-op weapon graphics and tentative invulnerability recovery

Choose a tag to compare

@mstan mstan released this 23 Oct 05:54

Fixes

  • Fixed garbled co-op special-weapon graphics when both players fire at once. Normal and charged projectiles now use their own graphics and palettes.
  • Tentative invulnerability fix: added recovery for a stuck hurt-protection state that may explain the report of P1 becoming invulnerable after P2 dies. The exact reported death-triggered behavior has not been reproduced on current code or confirmed fixed. A separate test deliberately creates the stuck state and verifies that protection expires; normal partner-death tests pass in both player orders. Further diagnostic capture or playtesting is needed to confirm the original report.

Changes: #145

Validation

The Windows ZIP and Linux AppImage pass packaged co-op gameplay checks, including startup from accented folder names. The Windows package also passes with development tools removed from PATH. Both packages retain normal audio and windowed defaults and contain no ROMs, private saves or extracted owner assets.

Regression suites pass on both platforms: windows 22 passed, 2 optional Saber asset checks skipped; linux 22 passed, 2 optional Saber asset checks skipped.

Download the Windows ZIP or Linux AppImage below. Supply your own supported Mega Man X ROM; co-op also requires your supported Mega Man X3 ROM.

v2.3.2 - Rendering performance and Boss Rush fix

Choose a tag to compare

@mstan mstan released this 23 Oct 04:21

Improvements

  • Reduce repeated VRAM copying during raster capture and reuse exact stage-map lookups within each draw. This improves CPU headroom without skipping guest execution, PPU side effects, scanline changes or native spawning behavior.
  • Fix a Boss Rush replacement spawning outside its arena when Start opens the native weapon menu on the boss-death frame. Replacement progression now waits for the arena camera to be valid.

Validation

The owner approved the final current-main gameplay build. Automated checks cover Magic Carpet at three aspect ratios and its negative control; 180 real death/pause replacement cases; exact full-copy/optimized captured images; current-build restore/rewind; and real independent/unified netplay rollback, audio-enabled desktop rollback, delay sync and state/slot repair. The existing Zero and co-op camera fixes from 2.3.1 are preserved.

Windows ZIP and Linux AppImage retain the launcher, bundled mod catalog and normal audio defaults. Supply your own supported Mega Man X USA ROM; imported Zero/weapon features require the corresponding owned source ROMs. No ROMs, extracted owner assets, audio packs or personal saves are included. Preserve native progress and settings when updating; host save states are build-specific.

Mega Man X 2.3.1

Choose a tag to compare

@mstan mstan released this 22 Oct 01:15

Fixes

  • Zero can break helmet blocks with his head at the correct height. This fixes the Storm Eagle case reported in #137 and applies to X3, Modern and Saber Zero.
  • In independent co-op, Sigma 1's upper ladder door now takes the entering player's camera and room limits. The native door scroll completes and returns the other player instead of leaving the camera at the shaft bottom (#110, session 10).

Validation

Both fixes were tested together using native game routines and the supplied checkpoints. The Sigma route was checked with both seat assignments, including partner return, player control and deterministic save/restore. Windows and Linux release packages were checked after packaging.

Your own Mega Man X USA ROM is required. Zero features also require your own supported Mega Man X3 ROM. ROMs and audio packs are not included.
