v1.3.2: Paper Chat 0.1.2, highlight comments carry the answer

Paper Chat 0.1.2 (paper-chat.xpi):

• Each highlight's comment now holds the answer instead of the question: "Q" followed by the answer, flattened to what the reader shows (bold, lists, [p.N] citations). The question stays in the Q&A note.

Zotero updates an installed Paper Chat on its own (or Tools → Plugins → gear → Check for Updates). paper-ask.zip and paper-search.zip are the same as in v1.3.1.

v1.3.1: Paper Chat 0.1.1, Windows-safe Claude Code calls

Paper Chat 0.1.1 (paper-chat.xpi):

• The Claude Code path no longer relies on arguments Windows drops or mangles (empty values, a multi-line system prompt through claude.cmd). Windows should work now but is untested; Claude Code on Windows needs Git for Windows. Please open an issue if it breaks.
• Finds claude on PATH when it isn't in a usual install location.

Zotero updates an installed Paper Chat on its own. paper-ask.zip and paper-search.zip are the same as in v1.3.0.

v1.3.0: Paper Chat, a Zotero plugin for asking Claude about the open PDF

New: Paper Chat (paper-chat.xpi), a Zotero 7–9 plugin. Open a PDF and ask Claude in the side pane; each quoted passage is highlighted in the PDF, and clicking p.N in the answer jumps there. Works through your Claude Code login (subscription) or an Anthropic API key. Install: Zotero → Tools → Plugins → gear → Install Plugin From File. Tested on macOS; Windows support is in progress.

Also in this release:

• Full version 1.1.1: Paper Chat's highlights and notes no longer count toward your reading progress.
• paper-ask.zip and paper-search.zip rebuilt, unchanged in behavior.

paper-chat-updates.json is what Zotero checks for plugin updates.

v1.2.0: zotero-ask renamed to paper-ask

zotero-ask is now paper-ask. Same skill, new name: Zotero is a registered trademark of the Corporation for Digital Scholarship, and this project isn't affiliated with them.

• paper-ask.zip: ask Claude about papers in your Zotero library. Page-cited answers, optional grey highlights and notes.
• paper-search.zip: unchanged, rebuilt.

If you installed zotero-ask: unzip paper-ask into ~/.claude/skills/paper-ask/, delete the old ~/.claude/skills/zotero-ask/ folder, and tell Claude "set up paper-ask". If you had told it to always save notes to a folder, say so again once (the setting was renamed). See the README.

v1.1.0: zotero-ask and paper-search skills

Two standalone Claude Code skills, plus updates to the full zotero-llm-wiki plugin.

New: standalone skills (download a zip, no Obsidian needed)

• zotero-ask.zip: ask Claude about papers in your Zotero library. Page-cited answers, optional grey highlights and notes.
• paper-search.zip: find papers with bibliographic data checked against OpenAlex, mark what you already have, add picks to Zotero.

Install: unzip into ~/.claude/skills/<name>/, then tell Claude "set up zotero-ask" or "set up paper-search". See the README.

Full plugin 1.1.0

• Setup opens an illustrated guide to creating a Zotero API key.
• Script messages are in English; Claude still answers in your language.
• Highlights with citation numbers (e.g. "refs. 57–59") are found correctly.
