PhotoTrace 0.3.1

Choose a tag to compare

@nevchr nevchr released this 22 Sep 13:45

Install on Windows

Download PhotoTrace-Setup-0.3.1-x64.msi and run it. The installer includes everything PhotoTrace needs; Python, Git, and developer tools are not required.

The installer is not digitally signed yet, so Windows may display an Unknown publisher warning. Verify the SHA-256 checksum before continuing.

What is new

  • Renamed the application and Windows packaging to PhotoTrace.
  • Added Guided and All-at-once workflows.
  • Added synchronized outing galleries to Map Preview and every fullscreen map.
  • Reworked saved outings with a full-width gallery and elevation profile.
  • Added full timezone coverage and corrected adjusted-camera-time display.
  • Added desktop and Start menu shortcuts while preserving existing saved outings.

Portable version

For a no-install option, download PhotoTrace-windows-x64.zip, extract the complete folder, and open PhotoTrace.exe. Keep the _internal folder beside the EXE.

Verification

The release passed 44 automated tests, MSI validation, packaged-app startup, repair, uninstall, clean reinstall, shortcut launch, and saved-outing preservation checks.

TrailTag 0.2.0 — Windows test build

Download and install

  1. Under Assets, download TrailTag-Setup-0.2.0-x64.msi. You do not need the source-code ZIP.
  2. Double-click the installer and follow the prompts.
  3. Open TrailTag from the Windows Start menu.

Requires 64-bit Windows. No Python or developer tools are needed. This test build is not digitally signed, so Windows may show an unknown-publisher warning. Only install the file downloaded from this repository if you trust its source; do not disable your security software.

What to try

  • Load a timestamped GPX route and a folder of JPEG photos, then preview their matches.
  • Click map markers to view photo previews.
  • Save a named trip, close the app, and reopen the saved trip and gallery.
  • Try Appearance → Light mode / Dark mode.
  • Create geotagged copies in a separate output folder. Originals are never modified.

Map tiles require internet access. Photos remain local. Saved galleries refer to the original photo files, so keep those files in place or use Reconnect photos after moving them.

Included fixes

Reliable map photo previews, remembered light/dark themes, improved text contrast, themed controls, and Windows app/shortcut/taskbar icon assignments.

Testing and feedback

42 automated tests passed, along with live map-preview checks in both themes. The Windows package and installer were validated. Please report what you tried, what you expected, and what happened; screenshots help, but remove private locations/photos first.

If you have an earlier local 1.0.x test build, uninstall it before installing 0.2.0 because Windows treats this version number as older. Saved trips and original photos are retained. This does not apply to a first-time installation.

The accompanying .sha256 file is provided for optional download-integrity verification.
