A full check of the whole app, with about 60 fixes. Installed copies update themselves.

No more hangs

• A file that makes an action crash no longer stops later actions.
• Word, Excel, LibreOffice, Edge, FFmpeg and the other helpers are stopped if they get stuck (password-protected or damaged files), and Office is always closed again.
• Converting a PowerPoint no longer takes over a presentation you have open.

Nothing half-done is left behind

• A failed action removes its partial output instead of leaving a broken file next to the original.
• Batch rename puts every name back if one file can't be renamed.
• Settings are saved safely; a damaged settings file is kept as settings.json.bad instead of being wiped.
• Files dropped on the shelf in quick succession are no longer lost.

Safer

• Add-on downloads are checked against known checksums before they are installed; a failed update keeps the working version.
• API keys are never handed to the app's windows, and keys that can't be unlocked are kept instead of erased.
• PDF passwords no longer appear on a command line; passwords need at least 8 characters.
• The To phone link closes once the phone has the file, and slow or flooding clients on the network can't stall it.
• Markdown files can't pull local files into a PDF; Windows Sandbox shares only the one file, with clipboard, GPU and microphone off.

Works as expected

• Ctrl+Space and the 1–8 keys are only taken when Quick look is on or the wheel is open.
• The progress card appears on the screen you are working on.
• Compress PDF never makes the file bigger; animated GIF/WebP are protected from losing their animation.
• Portrait phone videos merge correctly; Word to Markdown keeps literal __ and **.
• AI add-on works right after installing it, without a restart.
• About 140 more texts in Vietnamese, including job titles and the welcome screen.

New

• Failures stay on screen and explain themselves. The notification turns red, shows what went wrong, why, and how to fix it, with a button for the fix (for example Download qpdf when a PDF password needs that add-on), Try again, Details and Report. It no longer disappears after a few seconds.
• Activity: a list of everything ShiftDrop did, kept across restarts, in the main window and the tray menu. Failed jobs show the full error, the fix and a retry button; finished jobs link to their results. A red badge counts failures you haven't looked at.

Privacy

• Passwords (PDF password, encrypt, decrypt) and drawn signatures are no longer written to the local log, and jobs that carry them are not kept for retry. Existing logs should be cleared of them by updating; you can also delete %LOCALAPPDATA%\ShiftDrop\logs.

Fixed

• The app froze whenever an action opened a ShiftDrop window (More, All…, To phone, Upload link, Watermark, Encrypt, Password, the editors, quick look, the shelf). Windows can't create a window from a synchronous command without the UI thread waiting on itself; those commands now run asynchronously.
• Slow commands (finding installed apps, the Explorer menu entry, checking for Office, renaming, the Recycle Bin, the clipboard) no longer run on the UI thread, so nothing stutters while they work.

Every command was checked against this build: windows open in about 150 ms and the interface keeps answering within a few milliseconds.

Smoother everywhere.

• The wheel's glass is frosted once, when the screen is captured, instead of being blurred by the browser on every frame. Opening the wheel and growing it for the outer ring now only moves layers on the graphics card (transform and opacity), with no layout or repaint.
• Pointer moves are handled once per frame, however fast the mouse reports them.
• Progress bar animates with a transform instead of its width.
• Main window, shelf and preview backgrounds drift without a blur filter, so they cost almost nothing while open.

• More now opens like any other wedge: hover it and the next ten actions appear in the outer ring, plus All… for the full searchable list. Actions you pick there count toward earning a place on the wheel.

• To phone is now right on the wheel for images, video, audio, PDFs, documents, text and other files (it used to be hidden under More). Drop a file on it, scan the QR code with your phone, done.

Security hardening after a full review. Updating is recommended.

• Your own commands refuse file names containing & | < > ^ %, so a file named to look like a second command can't run one.
• Word, Excel, PowerPoint conversions open documents with macros forced off.
• HTML / Markdown to PDF prints with no network at all, so a page can't phone home; generated pages block scripts.
• Shred refuses links and hard-linked files instead of overwriting what they point to.
• API keys (VirusTotal, Claude, R2) are passed to curl on stdin, never on the command line where other programs could read them.
• Watched folders only run safe actions unattended (no commands, deletion, encryption or uploads).
• Wi-Fi sharing drops clients that stop reading.
• Each window gets only the permissions it needs; stricter content security policy.
• Add-on and CI downloads are pinned to exact versions.

• Report a problem: Settings and failed jobs have a Report button that opens a GitHub issue with your app and Windows version filled in. You review it before anything is sent.
• Local log in %LOCALAPPDATA%\ShiftDrop\logs (Settings › Open log folder), never uploaded.
• Word → Markdown without Office: headings, bold/italic, lists and tables.
• YARA scan for programs, using your own rules folder (YARA-X add-on).
• Crop, background, redact, trim, PDF pages and signature editors now use the same glass look as the rest of the app.

Fixed

• The mouse could stutter system-wide (for example right-click menus on the desktop) while ShiftDrop was running. Windows 11 put the app into Efficiency mode, which slowed its mouse hook; ShiftDrop now opts out and keeps that hook at top priority.

• Checks for updates shortly after start and once a day, and asks before installing.
• A short welcome on first launch: where the app lives, how the gesture works, language, start with Windows, and the FFmpeg add-on. Also in the tray menu under How to use.

Install: download ShiftDrop_1.0.0_x64-setup.exe below and run it (no admin rights needed).
