distill v0.1.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 07 Nov 20:22
dfd8ae7

What's new

  • Signed and notarized macOS disk images. The .dmg files are now signed with the Developer ID and notarized by Apple with the ticket stapled, not only the app inside. Gatekeeper accepts the download itself.
  • npm releases are staged. distill-llm is published from GitHub Actions with trusted publishing (OIDC) and provenance, and each version is approved by a maintainer with 2FA before it goes public.
  • Release builds retry Apple's notarization service when its network drops.

Install

npx distill-llm
claude mcp add distill -- npx -y distill-llm mcp
npm i -g distill-llm && distill-llm hooks install --claude
docker run --rm -p 4321:4321 ghcr.io/nievesjesus/distill

Desktop downloads are below, or at https://nievesjesus.github.io/distill/. Intel Macs get the Lite build only. The Windows installers are not code-signed yet (More info → Run anyway).

distill v0.1.1

@github-actions github-actions released this 07 Nov 19:14
1ed6f26

First public release of distill (npm: distill-llm): documents in, fewer tokens out.

distill turns PDFs, Office files and scans into token-lean Markdown for LLMs and coding agents, entirely on your machine. On our five demo PDFs, Claude needs 98.3k input tokens to read the raw files and 31.0k to read distill's Markdown (−68%, measured with Anthropic's token counting API).

Install

npx distill-llm                   # web app at http://127.0.0.1:4321
npx distill-llm convert report.pdf  # CLI
claude mcp add distill -- npx -y distill-llm mcp
npm i -g distill-llm && distill-llm hooks install --claude   # or --opencode
docker run --rm -p 4321:4321 ghcr.io/nievesjesus/distill

Requires Node.js 22.12 or newer.

Desktop downloads

Platform Lite Full (includes the LLMLingua-2 runtime)
macOS Apple Silicon Distill-lite-mac-arm64.dmg Distill-full-mac-arm64.dmg
macOS Intel Distill-lite-mac-x64.dmg not available: LLMLingua-2's ONNX runtime only supports Apple Silicon
Windows x64 Distill-lite-win-x64.exe Distill-full-win-x64.exe
Linux x64 Distill-lite-linux-x86_64.AppImage Distill-full-linux-x86_64.AppImage

The macOS apps are signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. The Windows installers are not signed yet: in the SmartScreen dialog choose More info → Run anyway. Office files need LibreOffice installed.

What's inside

  • Web app, desktop app (macOS, Windows, Linux), CLI (distill-llm convert) and Docker image
  • MCP server over stdio or Streamable HTTP (distill_file, distill_files, distill_capabilities), with root confinement for HTTP
  • Hooks so Claude Code and OpenCode read the distilled Markdown instead of the binary; they only touch PDF and Office reads inside your project, respect your permission rules and never block a read
  • Lossless boosters (repeated boilerplate, image and link targets, table padding, whitespace) and optional, lossy LLMLingua-2
  • No telemetry, no CDN; documents never leave your machine

Built on LiteParse by LlamaIndex.

Note: the npm package is distill-llm. npm rejected the planned name distillmd, so v0.1.0 was never published to npm; this release is the first one on npm and has the same features.
