Local Caption v0.4.2 — Windows CPU and CUDA
Replacement Windows release rebuilt from the MIT-licensed v0.4.2 source.
The earlier v0.1.0–v0.4.1 binary releases were withdrawn because they lacked complete notices; the older CUDA package also included unreviewed NVIDIA DLLs.
Recommended CPU edition (~191 MiB): Download LocalCaption-v0.4.2-windows-x64-cpu.7z and extract with 7-Zip. It works without an NVIDIA GPU and can still use compatible hardware video encoding via your FFmpeg.
Optional CUDA edition (~1.83 GiB): Download LocalCaption-v0.4.2-windows-x64.7z (one file, no split parts) for NVIDIA GPU transcription. The rebuilt CUDA edition omits three unneeded NVIDIA DLLs and passed a real packaged medium.pt GPU transcription/burn test. See the per-DLL CUDA redistribution audit, including its narrowly documented nvJitLink filename ambiguity; no blanket legal clearance is implied.
Keep the extracted LocalCaption folder intact and open LocalCaption.exe. It is portable and unsigned; no Python install is needed. Bring trusted ffmpeg.exe + ffprobe.exe (with libass/libx264) and, to transcribe, your own local Whisper .pt model. FFmpeg/FFprobe executables and models are not bundled. CPU and CUDA archives are alternatives; do not mix their folders.
SHA-256 checksums are attached. Each archive includes LICENSE, THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md, CUDA_REDISTRIBUTION.md, GNU license texts and original Python dependency/CPython license files. Windows only; macOS packaging is WIP.
