Deft 1.3.10

Choose a tag to compare

@ninjait07 ninjait07 released this 17 Oct 13:16

What's new in 1.3.10

Battery

  • A small bolt on a menu-bar battery cell shows the device is charging. Cells update as soon as you plug in or unplug.
  • Under This Mac in the details panel, while plugged in: the charger's wattage, the power actually coming in, and what the Mac is using. If the charger is too weak and the battery still drains, an orange line says so.

Remember Window Layout

  • When displays wake from sleep while the screen is locked, macOS often moves the windows only when you unlock — after Deft had already checked. Deft now puts windows back again right after you unlock, and never records the piled-up state while locked.

Ctrl+scroll zoom in Chrome

  • Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera and Vivaldi ignore ⌘+scroll on macOS, so Ctrl+scroll now zooms them with ⌘+ / ⌘−, the same steps as Ctrl+scroll on Windows.

Browse Folder Photos removed

  • The photo-browsing feature and its Set as Wallpaper button are gone. If you had turned it on, Deft asks macOS once to give image files back to the app that opened them before (Preview by default); macOS shows a confirmation for each file type — choose Use "Preview".

Deft 1.3.9

Choose a tag to compare

@ninjait07 ninjait07 released this 14 Oct 09:36

What's new in 1.3.9

Browse Folder Photos

  • Preview normally opens only the photo you double-click. Turn on Windows ▸ Browse Folder Photos and double-clicking a photo opens every photo in that folder in one Preview window, starting at the one you clicked — the arrow keys flip through the rest, like Windows Photos.
  • Selecting several photos first opens just those. Very large folders open in sets of 200.
  • To do this Deft becomes the app that opens PNG, JPEG, HEIC, GIF, TIFF, BMP, WebP and AVIF files and hands them straight to Preview. With the switch off, Deft passes each photo on its own to the app that opened it before. To take a file type away from Deft entirely, use Finder's Get Info ▸ Open with ▸ Change All.
  • Off by default.

Set as Wallpaper

  • While a photo is showing in Preview, a round Set as Wallpaper button sits in Preview's toolbar, left of the zoom buttons. With more than one display it asks: This Display or All Displays. Comes with Browse Folder Photos.

Battery

  • Devices that are not connected no longer appear in the Battery menu. Deft keeps their setting, so they show up again the way you set them when they reconnect.

Deft 1.3.8

Choose a tag to compare

@ninjait07 ninjait07 released this 12 Oct 08:27

What's new in 1.3.8

Remember Window Layout

  • Some monitors drop off the Mac when they go to sleep, and macOS then piles every window onto one display. Deft now remembers where each window was while your set of displays is steady, and when the same displays come back it puts the windows back on their display at the same size.
  • It acts once, a few seconds after the displays return, and skips minimized and full-screen windows. If only some of the displays come back, Deft leaves the windows where macOS put them until the full set returns.
  • New switch: Display ▸ Remember Window Layout (on by default).

This is new and has been checked by disconnecting and reconnecting a display; reports from other monitor setups are welcome.

Deft 1.3.7

Choose a tag to compare

@ninjait07 ninjait07 released this 12 Oct 04:50

What's new in 1.3.7

Battery of your devices

  • A new Battery section in the menu lists this Mac and every connected device that reports its battery to macOS (mouse, keyboard, headphones). Switch a device on and it gets its own cell on the menu bar: green, orange at 20%, red at 10%.
  • Click the monitor cells to see every device's battery in the details panel.
  • The menu bar cells are now grouped into zones (system · battery · AI) with a thin divider between them.

Claude Code usage stays current

  • Deft now asks your installed Claude Code command-line tool to run /usage in the background, about every five minutes while you're using Claude Code and when you open the details. The numbers no longer go stale until you type /usage yourself. It uses none of your quota, and Deft never sees your sign-in (see PRIVACY.md).

Intel Macs

  • One download now runs on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs (macOS 13 or later). Intel support is new and hasn't been run on real Intel hardware yet, so reports are very welcome. The temperature cell is expected to be absent on Intel.

Windows Snap

  • Pull a snapped or maximized window away and it becomes a floating window about a fifth of the screen, sized for the display you drop it on.
  • Snapping a window onto a smaller display now fits it to that display instead of leaving it hanging off both sides.

Also

  • The Deft icon keeps its place on the menu bar between launches.

Deft 1.3.7 beta 1 (รุ่นทดสอบสำหรับ Mac Intel)

Choose a tag to compare

@ninjait07 ninjait07 released this 10 Oct 13:45

  • System Monitor — CPU / RAM / SSD

Intel

Test build: the first universal Deft (Intel + Apple Silicon in one download), otherwise identical to 1.3.6. Signed and notarized, macOS 13+. It has been smoke-tested on Apple Silicon under Rosetta but not yet on real Intel hardware; the temperature cell is expected to be absent on Intel, and display power-off and rotation are untested there. Reports with your Mac model and macOS version are very welcome.

Deft 1.3.6

Choose a tag to compare

@ninjait07 ninjait07 released this 07 Oct 06:02

What's new in 1.3.6

Language switch key

  • The ~ key (and the other language-switch keys) now works on Macs that have "Automatically switch to a document's input source" turned on in System Settings. Deft used to set the input source directly, and macOS immediately put back the language remembered for that text field, so the key seemed to do nothing and the language badge at the insertion point disagreed with the menu bar.
  • Deft now presses macOS's own input-source shortcut, so the system does the switch itself. If those shortcuts are turned off in System Settings, Deft falls back to the previous method.

Thanks to the user who ran a diagnostic build and sent back the log that showed exactly what was happening.

Deft 1.3.5

Choose a tag to compare

@ninjait07 ninjait07 released this 07 Oct 03:39

What's new in 1.3.5

Four fixes, all from user reports.

Language switch key

  • The ~ key (and Win+Space) now switches once per press. Holding the key a moment too long used to switch twice and land back on the same language, so it looked like the key did nothing, and it could leave the language badge at the insertion point out of step with the menu bar.

Built-in display comes back by itself

  • If you powered off the built-in display and then unplug every external monitor, Deft turns the built-in display back on within about a second. Before, the screen stayed black until you closed and reopened the lid. Plugging a monitor back in turns it off again, as before.

Dock previews

  • Hovering a Dock icon keeps showing window previews after the Dock moves: a monitor plugged in or removed, a resolution change, or the Dock jumping to another display. It used to stop until Deft was relaunched.

Resize dividers

  • The divider between two snapped windows no longer shows on top of windows that are in front of it, such as Deft's own windows, apps without a Dock icon, and small dialogs.

Deft 1.3.5-debug (รุ่นเก็บ log ปุ่มเปลี่ยนภาษา)

Choose a tag to compare

@ninjait07 ninjait07 released this 07 Oct 04:56

Deft

Diagnostic build for troubleshooting the language-switch key. It is Deft 1.3.5 plus a local log (~/Library/Logs/Deft-language.log) of switch-key presses and input-source changes; no other keys or typed text are recorded and nothing is sent anywhere. Everyone else should use 1.3.5.

Deft 1.3.4

Choose a tag to compare

@ninjait07 ninjait07 released this 03 Oct 02:57

What's new in 1.3.4

Security fix

  • Release builds no longer include the developer hooks used to make screenshots and GIFs for the docs. Any program running on your Mac could trigger them to capture the screen with Deft's Screen Recording permission and save the images to any folder. They now exist only in local development builds. Thanks to @Maythane for the report (#1).
  • Relaunching Deft no longer breaks if the folder it's in has a quote in its name.

Everything from 1.3.3 is included: menu fits MacBook screens, Ctrl+X / Ctrl+V to move files in Finder (with a soft click, Esc to cancel), the 2×2 System Monitor details, and cleaner Claude Code usage.

Deft 1.3.3

Choose a tag to compare

@ninjait07 ninjait07 released this 03 Oct 02:43

What's new in 1.3.3

Fits MacBook screens

  • On shorter screens the menu ran off the top. Rows now tighten up to fit, and if that still isn't enough the menu scrolls, starting at the top.

Cut & paste files in Finder

  • Ctrl+X then Ctrl+V moves files in both Windows and Mac keyboard modes (⌘X / ⌘V work too in Mac mode).
  • A soft click tells you the files are cut. Press Esc to cancel the cut.
  • Copying something else after a cut cancels it, so the paste is a normal copy. While renaming a file, the keys cut and paste text as usual.

System Monitor details

  • Click the monitor cells to see CPU, Memory, SSD and Temp together in a 2×2 grid, whichever cells you show on the menu bar: user/system CPU, core types, swap, SSD speed and free space, and SSD/battery temperatures. Updates live while open.

Claude Code usage

  • Cleaner details: the API-price dollar and token rows are gone, leaving the percentages and reset times.
  • After the weekly limit resets, last week's number is no longer shown as current; it shows – until you run /usage in Claude Code.
