nuvira-setup.exe: installer (unattended access, Start menu, uninstall from Windows settings).nuvira.exe: the same program, runs without installing; it can install itself from Settings.nuvira-update-0.15.0.zip: the signed update, for your own server: unpack it into the server'supdatesfolder (how).
- Linux (64-bit; Debian 12, Ubuntu 24.04, Mint 22, Fedora 40 or later)
nuvira-linux-x64.deb: Ubuntu, Debian, Mint (sudo apt install ./nuvira-linux-x64.deb).nuvira-linux-x64.rpm: Fedora (sudo dnf install ./nuvira-linux-x64.rpm).nuvira-linux-x64.tar.gz: other distributions, or without sudo: extract it and run./install.sh(installs into~/.local).
With no server set the app uses the free NuviraHub public server (connect.nuvirahub.dev, terms, privacy); to use your own, see the server image.
Linux: also X11 sessions can be controlled
- Linux Mint, Xfce, MATE and the other desktops with an X11 session now show ID and password and can be controlled: screen (with the cursor), mouse, keyboard, wheel, clipboard, files. No permission dialog on X11. First version: tested on Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon.
- With Wayland (Ubuntu, Fedora) it works as in 0.14.0.
- Not yet: unattended access, which is Windows only for now.
Session toolbar
- Ctrl+Alt+Del is shown only towards Windows computers: on Linux and macOS it does nothing.
Updates are also signed with the NuviraHub release key and checked by the app. SHA-256 of the files in SHA256SUMS.txt.

Linux: this computer can be controlled (Wayland)
- With a Wayland session (the default on Ubuntu and Fedora) the app shows ID and password, and the Linux computer can be controlled: screen, mouse, keyboard, clipboard (text and images) and files, through the system's remote desktop portal and PipeWire. Tested with GNOME.
- The first time, after NuviraHub's confirmation, the system asks the person at the computer to allow remote control; the permission is remembered for later sessions, until it is revoked in the system settings.
- When the screen locks the system stops the sharing: the image resumes by itself once the screen is unlocked. If it is locked when the session starts, or the person does not allow it, the viewer says so.
- Received files go to the user's downloads folder ("Scaricati" on an Italian desktop).
- Not yet: X11 sessions (they still only control other computers) and unattended access, which is Windows only for now. Details.
- The packages are now built on Debian 12: Ubuntu 22.04 and Mint 21 are no longer supported (their PipeWire is too old); 0.13.0 keeps working there.
Updates are also signed with the NuviraHub release key and checked by the app. SHA-256 of the files in SHA256SUMS.txt.
NuviraHub 0.13.0
Download
- Windows
nuvira-setup.exe: installer (unattended access, Start menu, uninstall from Windows settings).nuvira.exe: the same program, runs without installing; it can install itself from Settings.nuvira-update-0.13.0.zip: the signed update, for your own server: unpack it into the server'supdatesfolder (how). Devices on the public server get it by themselves.
- Linux (64-bit; Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Mint 21, Fedora 40 or later)
nuvira-linux-x64.deb: Ubuntu, Debian, Mint (sudo apt install ./nuvira-linux-x64.deb).nuvira-linux-x64.rpm: Fedora (sudo dnf install ./nuvira-linux-x64.rpm).nuvira-linux-x64.tar.gz: other distributions, or without sudo: extract it and run./install.sh(installs into~/.local).

Linux: control other computers
- The app runs on Linux, with X11 or Wayland: ID, address book, connecting, the session window with its toolbar. The Linux computer itself cannot be controlled remotely yet: the app says so (details).
- Automatic updates are for Windows only for now: on Linux, install the new package.
Session window
- While the remote computer has not accepted yet, the window says so ("Waiting for the person at the remote computer to accept…") instead of staying black.
- Its own icon (an N inside a screen), so it is not mistaken for the app in the taskbar, on Windows and on Linux.

Code-signed
nuvira.exe,nuvira-setup.exeand the automatic update are now signed with a Certum Open Source code signing certificate ("Open Source Developer Alessandro Blason"), with a timestamp. Windows and antivirus software can see who published the program: unsigned, an antivirus took the installation of the service for malware.- The certificate is new: Windows SmartScreen may still warn the first times ("More info" → "Run anyway") until it has built up reputation.
- Customised installers of NuviraHub Pro keep the signature valid.
Video as datagrams (experimental, off by default)
- One parity shard instead of two while no losses are measured: on a saturated 2 Mbit/s link the median latency went from 125–170 to 76–83 ms.
Updates are also signed with the NuviraHub release key and checked by the app. SHA-256 of the files in SHA256SUMS.txt.

No more freezes when the quality adapts
- Changing the video bitrate or size used to restart the hardware encoder, which froze the image for 0.8–1.3 s every time (at the start of each session, and at every bitrate change on an unstable link). The encoder is now reconfigured in a few milliseconds. A clean session through the relay: 3 freezes → none, 53 → 57 fps. Checked with Intel Iris, UHD 620, HD 2500 and NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti.
Smoother on slow and congested links
- The adaptive bitrate no longer raises the quality while the screen hardly moves, nor climbs back past the rate at which the link filled up. Simulated 2 Mbit/s link with 40 ms delay: the 95th percentile of the latency went from about 1 s to 150–250 ms.
- At the start on a slow link the bitrate now comes down far enough to empty the queue that formed: the image catches up in about 3 s instead of 6–10.
- Keyframes asked by the viewer are limited to one a second.
The program is not code-signed yet: Windows SmartScreen may warn the first time ("More info" → "Run anyway"). Updates are signed with the NuviraHub release key and checked by the app. SHA-256 of the files in SHA256SUMS.txt.
NuviraHub 0.12.8
Download
nuvira-setup.exe: installer (unattended access, Start menu, uninstall from Windows settings).nuvira.exe: the same program, runs without installing; it can install itself from Settings.

A stopped service is shown, and can be started again
- When the NuviraHub service is stopped, the app shows it (red dot, "this PC is not reachable") with a button that starts it again, first updating it if it is older than the app (asks for administrator rights).
Updates that stop halfway no longer leave the PC unreachable
- The service keeps a backup of its program once it has run well; if an update stops halfway and the program is missing, a system task puts the previous version back and starts the service within about a minute.
- Found with Kaspersky Anti-Ransomware Tool, which took the unsigned program installing the service for malware and deleted the files it had written. The program will be code-signed in a coming release; until then such an antivirus may still block the update itself, but the PC stays reachable on the previous version.
- The Start menu shortcut is created by the program itself instead of a PowerShell script.
The program is not code-signed yet: Windows SmartScreen may warn the first time ("More info" → "Run anyway"). Updates are signed with the NuviraHub release key and checked by the app. SHA-256 of the files in SHA256SUMS.txt.
NuviraHub 0.12.4
Download
nuvira-setup.exe: installer (unattended access, Start menu, uninstall from Windows settings).nuvira.exe: the same program, runs without installing; it can install itself from Settings.

Faster sessions
- Intel Quick Sync no longer stops at about 32 fps: the encoder waited for the coarse Windows timer. Real screen between two PCs on the LAN: 28 → 52 fps, median latency 37 → 27 ms, 95th percentile 61 → 40 ms.
- The remote PC encodes at the size of the viewer's window: a 4K screen seen in a 1280×720 window goes from 23 to 40 fps, latency 85 → 39 ms (and less bandwidth). "Actual size" still sends every pixel.
- The viewer no longer falls back to Windows' software renderer on old graphics cards (1.5 → 47 fps there).
Fixes
- Automatic updates of the service can no longer leave the PC unreachable: a system task starts the service again if the update stops halfway, starting is retried, and
update.logrecords the time of each step. - With the service installed, the server chosen in Settings now applies to the service (asks for administrator rights); the status dot no longer stays yellow after clearing the server name.
- Settings icon is now a gear.
The program is not code-signed yet: Windows SmartScreen may warn the first time ("More info" → "Run anyway"). Updates are signed with the NuviraHub release key and checked by the app. SHA-256 of the files in SHA256SUMS.txt.
