Windfall 0.2.1

Choose a tag to compare

@odinong odinong released this 30 Oct 03:53

Co-op now shares fights, cutscenes and the ending.

Enemies. Players in the same place fight the same enemies. Damage anyone deals counts for everyone, an enemy one player defeats is gone for the others, and each enemy follows the game of the player nearest to it, so it's in the same place for everyone.

Bosses. Boss health is shared, and the boss follows the game of whoever entered the boss room first. Whoever lands the final hit gets the warp, and everyone else in that dungeon goes with them.

Cutscenes. When a story cutscene takes you somewhere, players standing near you go along and watch it too. The ending takes everyone in the room, wherever they are. During your own cutscenes and conversations, other players are hidden and nothing pulls you away.

Chests and doors. A chest or door your partner opens now shows as open in your game too, once you're not standing right next to it.

Pickups. A heart container, heart piece or key your partner already took doesn't count twice if you grab your own copy. Things the story takes away (the sword in the Forsaken Fortress) aren't handed back by your partner's game.

Reliability. Warps and cutscene follows survive a dropped packet and a paused game. Enemies that grab you (Floormasters, ReDeads) are never moved or removed. A flag that flickers during a busy moment syncs again after a couple of quiet minutes.

New toggles in the Multiplayer tab: "Share enemies and bosses" and "Watch story cutscenes together" (both on).

Still per player: cutscenes that don't move you to another place, enemies' AI (only their position, health and defeat are shared), and items in the spoils, bait and delivery bags.

Everyone in a room needs 0.2.1. No rebuild needed when updating from 0.1.1 or later: the game code didn't change.

@odinong odinong released this 26 Oct 21:35

Co-op you can play the whole game through.

Item sharing actually works now. Before, shared items never reached your inventory. Now everything anyone gets, everyone gets: items and their upgrades (Swift Sail, Deluxe Picto Box, Fire & Ice and Light Arrows), swords, shields and bracelets (worn when you get them), songs, pearls, Triforce pieces, heart containers, and bigger quivers, bomb bags, wallets and magic meters. Rupees, ammo and what's in your bottles stay yours (you get the bottle itself, empty).

Shared story. The first player in the room hosts the story. When you join, your game takes on their progress and reloads your area. After that, what anyone does reaches everyone within about a second:

  • story events
  • opened chests and pressed switches
  • small keys, maps, compasses and boss keys
  • bosses beaten and heart containers taken
  • salvaged treasure
  • treasure and Triforce charts, and the sea chart

Temporary switches in a dungeon or room are shared with whoever is in the same place.

  • Going back to the title screen or loading a file re-syncs you with the host. Dying and continuing doesn't lose anything.
  • Your save file only takes on the host's story if you save.
  • You can turn story sharing off in the Multiplayer tab.

Not shared yet: cutscenes (each player watches their own, though their effects carry over), enemies and boss fights in progress, and side-quest bags (spoils, bait, deliveries).

Everyone in a room needs 0.2.0. No rebuild needed when updating from 0.1.1 or later: the game code didn't change.

Windfall 0.1.3

@odinong odinong released this 26 Oct 00:43

Fix for high frame rates.

  • Link's hair (and other model parts) no longer stretch or shoot up during rolls and sharp turns above 30 fps.

No rebuild needed when updating from 0.1.1 or 0.1.2: the game code didn't change.

Windfall 0.1.2

Choose a tag to compare

@odinong odinong released this 25 Oct 23:49

Fixes for high frame rates.

  • Lanterns and torches no longer flicker like crazy above 30 fps. Their flicker now runs at the game's own speed whatever your frame rate.
  • Fixed HUD pieces moving around and overlapping at very high frame rates. Smoothing for menus and the HUD is now an experimental option in the Video tab (off by default).
  • Smoother blending of fast-turning parts of models between frames.

No rebuild needed when updating from 0.1.1: the game code didn't change.

Windfall 0.1.1

@odinong odinong released this 25 Oct 20:33

Fixes and settings that apply without restarting.

Settings apply while playing

  • Frame rate, including switching to and from 30 fps
  • Graphic packs (except Resolution, which still needs a restart)
  • Mods (content changes show up from the next area you enter)
  • Discord status

High frame rate fixes

  • Grass swayed too fast and cut trees fell too fast above 30 fps
  • The sword blade looked like it went in and out during fast swings above 60 fps
  • Menus and the HUD now animate at your full frame rate instead of 30
  • Fixed the game speeding up after changing the frame rate while playing

Co-op

  • The Multiplayer tab is simpler and shows where everyone is and which game they're playing
  • Rooms share each player's randomizer seed. Items are only shared between players on the same game, and the Randomizer tab can make another player's seed for you

Other

  • New "Wait for new shaders" option (on by default) so objects don't pop in late
  • Randomizer dropdowns no longer cut off their text

The game code changed, so the first launch after updating builds it again (a couple of minutes).

Windfall 0.1.0

172ea06

First public build of Windfall, a PC port of The Wind Waker HD made by recompiling the Wii U game's code.

You need your own dump of the game (USA, v0). Nothing from the game is in this download.

How to play:

  1. Unzip Windfall-0.1.0.zip anywhere.
  2. Run windfall.exe and pick your game folder (the one with code, content and meta).
  3. The first launch builds the game code for your PC. That takes a few minutes and only happens once.

Press F1 in game for settings. The README has the controls, co-op, randomizer and graphic pack details.

Requirements: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) and a GPU with Vulkan support.
