v0.2026.1
The first public release of Locus, a local-first Markdown notebook. Your notes stay plain files in a folder you choose, readable and editable by any app or Agent you already use.
Reading
- Open any folder as a library: each note is a folder with an
index.md, and nested folders form the note tree. - Browse the tree or search notes and actions, with back and forward history and remembered sidebar state.
- Read Markdown with summaries, custom YAML properties, local images and galleries, following edits made outside Locus.
- Select text across a note and copy it as text, HTML or Markdown, or copy a code block with one click.
- Explore how notes nest and link in a full-window relation graph, optionally with their attachments.
- Show a note's own HTML, JavaScript or JSON canvas, then refresh or export it.
Organizing
- Give a note an Emoji or PNG icon, copy a reference to it, open it in your editor or reveal its folder.
- See which notes have uncommitted Git changes in the tree.
Agents
- Let Agents on this computer find your notes through read-only MCP.
- Open your shell or an Agent CLI in a built-in terminal, and install the bundled note-writing skill from Settings.
Appearance and updates
- Choose a system, light or dark theme that follows the system text size and contrast, in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese or Korean.
- Get new versions from Settings > About, with release notes and download progress, checked daily and optionally installed silently.
Downloads
- Install from macOS disk images for Apple silicon and Intel, Windows installers for x64 and ARM64, or Linux
.debpackages and archives for x64 and ARM64. - Allow the first launch in macOS Privacy & Security or Windows SmartScreen, as builds are not yet signed.
