Codex CLI: pre-apply interactive edit review like Claude Code CLI
#39943
I would like Codex CLI in the terminal to support the interactive proposed-edit workflow available in Claude Code CLI. This request is not for Codex App, VS Code, another IDE, or a Git-only review pane.
Before writing a local file, Codex CLI should hold the edit as pending, show the exact diff in the terminal, and offer native choices equivalent to Yes, accept edits for the session, or No. The terminal chat input should remain available so the user can request corrections or additional changes; Codex should then generate a revised pending diff without touching the original file.
The Claude Code CLI reference also provides clear line-level and intraline highlighting: added lines are green, while the exact new words or characters use a stronger green; removals use the corresponding red treatment. This is especially useful for LaTeX, prose and configuration files containing long lines.
The essential property is transactional approval: only the exact displayed and accepted diff is written to disk. Post-edit Git diff inspection or Undo is not equivalent.
Feature request and concrete Claude Code CLI dialog: #39939
If you need this Codex CLI workflow, please react with a thumbs-up on the issue and add your concrete terminal use case.
