0.81.0 - 2026-11-03
Highlights
- Checkpoint and inspect native Hyper-V Windows guests. Save, restore, and fork checkpoints with fresh identities, and capture interactive desktops, screenshots, videos, and desktop proof. PR 2989, PR 2990. Thanks @paulcam206, @RomneyDa and @Copilot.
- Run standalone macOS sandboxes on WarpBuild. Synchronize commands and manage owned leases through the native
wbCLI. PR 3004. Thanks @vincentkoc.
Upgrade notes
- New Hyper-V leases power off during host shutdown or reboot instead of saving their memory, avoiding memory-sized state files on the VM drive. Use
crabbox pausebefore planned maintenance to preserve memory.crabbox resumerejects powered-off VMs with exit 4; release them withcrabbox stop. Existing leases retain their original setting. PR 2991. Thanks @paulcam206 and @RomneyDa.
Added
- Boat: opt into native account environment isolation with
asciiBox.noEnvor--ascii-box-no-env, retaining creation policy across fixed leases and blocking incompatible execution reuse. PR 3010. Thanks @vincentkoc. - Boat: select native machine sizes with
--typeor Crabbox classes for ordinary and fixed-ID leases, preserving existing default-sized lease recovery. PR 3003. Thanks @vincentkoc. - WarpBuild: run and synchronize standalone macOS sandboxes, inspect owned leases, and pause, resume, or delete them through the native
wbCLI. PR 3004. Thanks @vincentkoc. - Hyper-V: save and resume native Windows guests with exact-claim fencing, standard lifecycle JSON receipts, a shared Node/npm warm baseline, and bounded provisioning and host operations. PR 2975. Thanks @paulcam206.
- Windows copy: transfer one regular file to or from native Windows leases with
crabbox cpover SFTP, private staging, size and SHA-256 checks, and atomic destination replacement under the exact lease claim. PR 2988. Thanks @paulcam206 and @Copilot. - Hyper-V: create, restore, fork, and delete native Windows checkpoints; restore only the source lease, give forks fresh VM, network, and guest identities, and preserve exact claim fencing. PR 2989. Thanks @paulcam206, @RomneyDa and @Copilot.
- Hyper-V: add
--desktop, probe-only--browser, and screenshot, video, and desktop-proof support for native Windows guests, capturing through the lease user's interactive session. PR 2990. Thanks @paulcam206 and @RomneyDa.
Changed
- Batch main CodeQL security scans every six hours while retaining pull request and manual analysis and the Dependabot merge gate. PR 3014. Thanks @vincentkoc.
Fixed
- Sync: report bounded seeded-delta fallback reasons with
--debugwhile preserving full-manifest fallback and keeping raw probe output private. PR 3016. Thanks @vincentkoc. - Hyper-V: use
AutomaticStopAction=TurnOfffor new leases so running guests do not reserve memory-sized state files on the VM drive. PR 2991. Thanks @paulcam206 and @RomneyDa. - Linux commands: complete release installations use the matching native runtime for foreground commands, prevent disconnected invocations from starting workloads, and require exact completion and retirement before confirming cancellation cleanup; unknown retirement retains its stage locator without automatic replay. PR 3001. Thanks @roboclaw-bot and @galiniliev.
- Boat: honor explicit fixed-lease reclaim across checkouts after native identity and execution-policy checks, preserving the create intent and cleanup ownership. PR 3013. Thanks @vincentkoc.
- Boat: accept a ready sandbox's SSH endpoint without requiring a public IP, preserving endpoint validation and IP fallback. PR 3006. Thanks @vincentkoc.
- Boat: retain native error output from both streams so alias warnings do not hide failures or block snapshot recovery, with existing credential redaction. PR 3007. Thanks @vincentkoc.
- Boat: keep native CLI operations on the selected Crabbox account when an ambient
BOAT_API_KEYis present. PR 3005. Thanks @vincentkoc. - Sync benchmarks: reject missing, duplicate or invalid phase results before reporting comparisons, preserve failed evidence as strict JSON, and require explicit expected phase names for custom Go regex selectors. PR 3011. Thanks @vincentkoc.
- Blacksmith: reuse settled command-output snapshots and prepared proof summaries during finalization, avoiding repeated bounded-tail copies while preserving failure reporting and independent evidence destinations. PR 2987. Thanks @vincentkoc.
- Blacksmith: finish bounded settlement verification when the native post-stop status read exhausts reconciliation's deadline, preserving fresh identity, exact GitHub completion, caller cancellation and claim fencing without replaying work or stop. PR 2985. Thanks @vincentkoc.
- Azure: complete brokered cleanup when every claimed resource is definitively absent, retaining strict identity and ownership checks for any surviving resource. PR 2984. Thanks @steipete.
- Azure: clean up verified lease-owned companions that appear after an interrupted create records an empty or network-only cleanup claim, preserving original identities and deletion guards. PR 2983. Thanks @steipete.
- Parallels: wait for DHCP instead of probing SSH on a self-assigned link-local address, preserving the startup deadline and fresh-clone retry with an address-specific diagnostic. PR 2981. Thanks @rustanacexd.
- Docs: directory sync documentation now says the source root is the directory Crabbox runs from and that
runhas no--workdirflag. PR 2982. Thanks @KrasimirKralev. - Coordinator recovery: preview and retire an exact interrupted create request after its cancellation token is lost, preserving ownership, generation checks, and pending cleanup evidence. PR 2980. Thanks @vincentkoc.
- Homebrew release verification: authorize the maintained formula in each credential-free verification workspace before loading it, keeping trust local even with machine Homebrew configuration, preserving formula identity, archive, signature, and installation checks. PR 2979. Thanks @vincentkoc.
- Release builds: retire completed private compiler caches between targets so multi-platform production does not retain every target's cache until packaging. PR 2978. Thanks @vincentkoc.
