GitHub Copilot Pro reactivation shows $4.84 instead of $10 – How can I start a completely new monthly billing cycle? #212320
🏷️ Discussion TypeQuestion 💬 Feature/Topic AreaAccount Related BodyHello everyone, I'm having a confusing issue while trying to reactivate my GitHub Copilot Pro subscription, and I'd appreciate advice from anyone who has experienced something similar. My subscription history My account currently shows GitHub Free and Copilot Free. The problem When I try to purchase Copilot Pro again, the checkout initially displays the regular $10 monthly price. However, on the payment confirmation page, the amount changes to $4.84. GitHub Support explained that: $4.84 covers November 6–20. I don't understand why my cancelled subscription is still tied to the previous November 21 billing date. What I actually want I want to start a completely NEW monthly subscription from November 7. For example: Pay $10 on November 7. I don't want to pay $4.84 for approximately two weeks of access if I can instead purchase a fresh monthly subscription. My questions I have already contacted GitHub Support, but the responses so far have not directly answered these questions. I'm a college student working on an important project and urgently need Copilot Pro again. I am willing to pay the regular monthly price. I simply want to understand exactly what I am purchasing. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

the $4.84 isn't a penalty, it's proration. your github account has one billing date (usually the day you first started a paid plan, the 21st for you) and paid products get lined up to it. cancelling copilot doesn't reset it, the date belongs to the account, not the subscription. the math checks out: nov 6 to 20 is 15 days, $10 x 15/31 = $4.84. after that it's $10 every 21st. per day you pay the same as a "fresh" $10 subscription, so you're not losing anything. i couldn't find any setting to move the billing date yourself. if you really want it on the 7th, ask support directly "can you change my account billing date?", not sure they will but that's the only way i know. docs: https://docs.github.com/en/billing/concepts/billing-cycles |
