Dotify Studio 1.0.3 (fork)

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 13 Oct 12:46

Fork of brailleapps/dotify-studio, which is no longer maintained.

New in 1.0.3

  • Fixed: only English could be selected. The packaged application shipped a Java runtime without locale data, so the language list held nothing but English. Swedish text was then translated with English braille rules, which produced wrong braille on Windows and failed outright on Apple silicon, where the liblouis library is only available for Intel. The language list is complete again. Set the language under Preferences, General, Language/region.

From 1.0.2

  • Emboss to an embosser on the network, without a print queue: pick Add an embosser on the network... at the end of the device list in the embosser settings and enter its address. Needed on macOS, which no longer supports raw print queues, and useful on Windows as it avoids depending on a shared printer.
  • Fixed a save bug where the change watcher could wrongly report that a file had been changed by another application.

From 1.0.1

  • 28 rows and no cover page by default, both still changeable per document.
  • Fixed: a typed number of copies was ignored unless Enter was pressed.
  • A pause between copies showing how many remain; Enter embosses the next copy, Escape cancels the rest.
  • Builds and runs on Java 17 or later with OpenJFX, instead of Java 8.

Downloads

Java is included in all packages, so nothing else needs to be installed.

File For
Dotify.Studio-1.0.3.msi Windows, installer
Dotify.Studio-windows-portable.zip Windows, runs without installing: unpack and start Dotify Studio.exe
Dotify.Studio-1.0.3.dmg Mac (Apple silicon)

The packages are not signed. Windows shows "Windows protected your PC" - choose "More info" and then "Run anyway". On Mac, right-click the application and choose Open the first time.

Dotify Studio 1.0.2 (fork)

@github-actions github-actions released this 29 Sep 11:11

Fork of brailleapps/dotify-studio, which is no longer maintained.

New in 1.0.2

  • Emboss to an embosser on the network, without a print queue. Braille has to reach the embosser untouched, which requires a raw print queue, and those can no longer be created on macOS. The application now sends the data straight to the embosser instead (AppSocket/JetDirect, port 9100). In the embosser settings, pick Add an embosser on the network... at the end of the device list and enter its address, for example 192.168.1.50. The address is remembered and can be selected like any other device. This works on Windows too, where it avoids depending on a shared printer.
  • Fixed a save bug. The change watcher could read a half-updated value and report that a file had been changed by another application when it had not. Saving to a new location also stored the wrong timestamp.

From 1.0.1

  • 28 rows and no cover page by default, both still changeable per document.
  • Fixed: a typed number of copies was ignored unless Enter was pressed, so several copies produced one copy.
  • A pause between copies showing how many remain; Enter embosses the next copy, Escape cancels the rest. The dialog appears when the copy has been sent to the print queue, not when the embosser has finished, so wait until it stops before continuing.
  • Builds and runs on Java 17 or later with OpenJFX, instead of Java 8.

Dotify Studio 1.0.1 (fork)

@github-actions github-actions released this 16 Sep 06:33

Fork of brailleapps/dotify-studio 1.0.0, which is no longer maintained.

Changes

  • 28 rows and no cover page by default. Both can still be changed per document in the converter options, and a template with its own values takes precedence.
  • Fixed: the number of copies was ignored. A number typed in the copies field was only used if Enter was pressed in the field, so embossing several copies produced a single copy.
  • Pause between copies. When embossing several copies, a dialog appears after each copy showing how many copies remain, so the pages of each copy can be collected. Enter embosses the next copy and Escape cancels the remaining copies. Note that the dialog appears when the copy has been sent to the print queue, not when the embosser has finished, so wait until the embosser stops before continuing.
  • Runs on current Java. The application was built for Java 8 with JavaFX included; it now builds and runs on Java 17 or later with OpenJFX.
