FAQ

Is Sprigo free? Yes. It's open source under the MIT license, with no account, subscription or ads. A cloud AI provider, if you choose one, bills you directly.

Does it work offline? Yes, with a local model (Ollama or LM Studio), Whisper and a local voice. Only downloads (model, voices, updates) need the internet.

Where is my data? In a local SQLite database in the app data folder, with daily backups:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/com.ozerozdas.sprigo
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\com.ozerozdas.sprigo
  • Linux: ~/.local/share/com.ozerozdas.sprigo

You can move it (for example to a synced folder), export it or import it in Settings.

Can I use it on two computers? Put the data folder in a synced folder. A lock file makes sure only one device writes at a time.

Which languages can I learn? English from A1 to C2, and Spanish, French, German and Turkish at A1. More are on the way, and you can help: Writing a Course.

Which interface languages are there? English, Turkish, German, French and Spanish. A new one is a single JSON file (good first issue).

Why are the lessons weak or wrong sometimes? Usually because the model is small. Use 8B or larger: AI Model Setup. If a specific exercise is wrong, you can appeal it in the lesson.

Does Sprigo listen all the time? No. The microphone is only on during speaking exercises and live lessons, and audio is never stored.

Can I use it on my phone? Yes, through Tailscale: Settings → Use on your phone. The phone uses the desktop's data, speech recognition and Ollama, so the desktop must be on.

How do I report a bug or suggest a feature? Bugs: open an issue. Ideas: Ideas & Feature Requests.
