Troubleshooting

Before you ask for help, check your version under Settings → Updates and update if a new one is available.

Installing

macOS says the app is damaged or can't be opened. The app isn't notarized yet. Run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Sprigo.app once. See Installation.

AI

"No local model found" Ollama isn't running, or isn't on http://localhost:11434. Start the Ollama app, then check again in Settings → Advanced → AI provider.

"Ollama is running but has no models yet" Let Sprigo download the suggested model, or run ollama pull qwen3:8b.

"Could not connect"

  • LM Studio: the local server must be started and a model loaded.
  • Cloud: check the API key and your account's credit.
  • A custom address: check the port and that nothing (VPN, firewall) blocks localhost.

"Lesson could not be generated" The model returned something Sprigo couldn't use. Try again; if it keeps happening, use a larger model (8B+). Some small models also fail to produce structured JSON reliably.

The tutor is slow to reply. The first reply loads the model into memory. After that, speed depends on model size and hardware. A smaller model, or a GPU, helps. Close other heavy apps to free memory.

Voice

Sprigo doesn't hear me.

  • Check the microphone permission (see Voice and Microphone).
  • Make sure Settings → Speaking exercises is on.
  • Use Try it in the speech settings to test your microphone.

"No microphone access" Allow Sprigo in your OS microphone settings, then restart the app.

The tutor stops talking by itself. The microphone hears the speakers and treats it as you cutting in. Use headphones, or turn off Cut in on the tutor.

"Local voice unavailable, switched to the system voice" Piper or Kokoro couldn't run, for example because the voice download failed or the language isn't supported (Kokoro is English only). Pick the voice again in Settings, or keep the system voice.

No sound on iPhone. Turn off silent mode.

Data

"This data is from a newer version" The data folder was last opened by a newer Sprigo, maybe on another device. Update this one.

I want my old progress back. Daily backups are kept in the backups folder inside the data folder. Use Import in the data settings to restore one.

Still stuck?

Ask in Q&A, or open a bug report with your version, OS, AI provider and model.
