What's Changed

  • Filesystem: dlt-filesystem declares what it imports. A standalone
pip install dlt-filesystem lacked Polars, so reading a CSV failed with
No module named 'polars'. Polars is now a base dependency. BSON, the DuckDB CSV
reader and the spreadsheet formats (XLSX, ODS) get the bson, duckdb and
spreadsheet extras: without one, its formats are left out of the supported-formats
message and their reader names the extra to install. omniload installs are
unchanged, since omniload already carries all of these.

  • Filesystem: XLSX files, written. The local file:// destination writes
.xlsx workbooks with one worksheet named after the destination table, so a
later load finds the table by that name. A value an Excel cell would store as a
different value is refused, naming the column: an integer beyond 2^53, NaN or
infinity, a string past 32,767 characters, a date before March 1900. Excel's own
precision is documented rather than refused: floats keep 16 significant digits and
times read back to the millisecond. Nested values, binary and decimals are written
as text, as CSV writes them.
