Breaking changes and migration
- Require documented Provider API access for inference, carrying #164 by @patlux.
403 upgrade_requiredstops without any internal/alpha/generateretry. Go users must use the official CLI within its supported plan or an account with Provider API entitlement; GOAT, Pro and Max retain their entitled API access. This deliberately supersedes the fallback hardened in #154 and the subsequent generate-specific fixes. Remove the retired client, serializers and Go live profile from the package; preserve credentials, sessions, endpoint choices and native host gates. Read-only quota/account endpoints remain an explicit exception, not an entitlement bypass. Retry after an entitlement change; sign in again only if changing accounts. - The Provider-only policy was integrated through #203. Generate-only behavior, including the
COMMANDCODE_TASTE_LEARNINGopt-in, no longer applies. Native hosts own inference serialization, timeout and retry behavior; the extension no longer implements a generate retry loop. Updating does not delete or migrate credentials, sessions or persisted endpoint choices. A successful login or quota request is not evidence of API entitlement.
Improvements and fixes
-
Add
/commandcode-endpoint <model-id> auto|responses|chat-completionsfor persistent per-model Provider API routing, carried forward from #158 by @patlux. Choices survive refresh/restart and appear in status/diagnostics. Malformed routing files fall back to catalog routing with a visible warning; explicit command repair preserves their previous contents in a private backup. Wire changes replace stale compatibility flags rather than merging them, while same-wire host/user settings and Oh My Pi reasoning replay are preserved. The global routing default is unchanged; no automatic retries or mid-stream switching are added. Inference entitlement follows the breaking change above. -
Preserve Chat Completions reasoning history on Oh My Pi; previous reasoning was dropped from follow-up requests. Carries the fix and real-host protocol contracts from #162 by @patlux, with image-payload assertions, catalog preconditions and process cleanup hardened during the carry. Pi's reasoning behavior is unchanged.
-
Require a dedicated entrypoint typecheck against the installed Pi declarations, with compile-time host contracts. Copy model costs and context tiers into independent mutable registration metadata without applying request-time peak pricing; cover registration at peak and off-peak hours through the real Pi loader (#198).
-
Refresh the capability snapshot to
command-code@1.88.3: advertise image input forstealth/crouton-alpha, plus reasoning and selectable efforts for Crouton (low/medium/high/xhigh/max) andinclusionai/ling-3.1-flash-1019(low/medium/high). Use their published output limits of 943,718 and 262,144 tokens respectively, still capped by the model's context window. Pricing and endpoint routing are unchanged. -
Add content-free
/commandcode-diagnosticsreports, per-request body-chunk timing and error categories, plus explicit unknown-price warnings. Measurements use the caller's fetch hook without retaining request bodies. Carried forward from #159 by @patlux; the per-model endpoint routing from the same stack stays with #158. -
Add guarded, bounded and deduplicated catalog maintenance alerts, carrying #163 by @patlux through #202. Two consecutive default-branch catalog failures create or reopen one bot-owned incident, and a processed current success comments and closes it. Recovery can be delayed by newer failed runs; loss of the reserved label can hide an incident and allow duplicates. See
RELEASE.mdfor the operational limits and manual triage.
Integration and validation
- This release includes the diagnostics, routing and reasoning carries #180, #200 and #201, the catalog snapshot #199, the entrypoint gate #198, and the maintenance and entitlement carries #202 and #203.
- Source and packed-package checks use real Pi and Oh My Pi hosts against isolated loopback mocks, including all three Provider API protocols, reasoning/tool/image history and persisted endpoint routing. These checks do not claim live account entitlement, billing accuracy or upstream performance. Existing catalog-workflow action pinning and host-action deprecation warnings remain separate maintenance work.
Contributors
- @patlux (Patrick Wozniak) — authored the diagnostics, endpoint routing, Oh My Pi reasoning, maintenance policy and Provider API entitlement work carried forward from #159, #158, #162, #163 and #164.
- @pierreraby — reviewed and adapted the carries, added integration and regression guards, updated capability metadata, introduced the real-host entrypoint gate, and prepared this release.
Validation
- Release CI and packed/registry package tests with real Pi and OMP against mock APIs.
- No live Command Code account test is performed by this workflow.
