RAWmakase 0.4.7
RAWmakase 0.4.7 lets you apply Auto Settings and presets to a whole Library selection, and makes Rename Photos use the same Filename Template Editor as Export, with templates you can save. Photos can now move to and from SMB network shares on Linux and Windows, a large rename no longer freezes the app, and Find on Disk… relinks photos that went missing. Windows 10 PCs with Intel graphics should stop closing silently at launch, and double-clicking the title bar on a Mac zooms the window reliably. The interface also gets a consistency pass, and Nikon, Pentax, Samsung and lossless JPEG RAW files decode on every CPU core.
New
- Auto Settings and presets for the Library selection. Quick Develop in the Library has a searchable Saved Preset… chooser and an Auto Settings button. Both apply to every selected photo. Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+U runs Auto Settings on the selection; in Develop it still applies to the open photo only. (#724, #721)
- Rename Photos uses file-name templates. Library ▸ Rename Photos (
F2on several photos) now offers Export's File Naming list, Custom Text, Start Number, an example, and Edit… for the Filename Template Editor, as Lightroom's does. (#713) - Save file-name templates under a name. The Filename Template Editor's Preset menu can save, update, rename and delete your own templates, which then appear in Export's Rename To and in Rename Photos. (#715)
- More file-name tokens are filled. Software, Focal Length 35mm, Artist, Keywords and the IPTC place tokens now name files as Lightroom Classic names them. Title, caption, copyright and creator come from the file itself when the catalog has none. The aperture in the Exposure token uses your region's decimal separator, as Lightroom writes it. (#714, #716, #717)
- Move photos to and from SMB shares on Linux and Windows. Shares mounted with Linux's kernel CIFS client, and Windows network drives, can now be a source or a destination, as on a Mac. Each copy is checked by name and SHA-256, and moving off a share keeps the originals where they were. Desktop (GVFS) shares on Linux are still refused. (#676, #711)
- Find on Disk… for an offline photo. In a photo's thumbnail menu and Develop's Photo menu, pick the file's new location. RAWmakase checks it against the photo's checksum, then offers to relink the other missing photos beside it. If an unsaved edit is stuck on a file that is gone, it offers to discard that edit. (#704, #707, #693, #702)
- Move a root folder into another root. Drag it onto a folder of another root, or use Move Folder… in its menu. On the same drive it is one rename; across drives it is a verified copy, and the original then goes to the Trash. (#694, #586)
- Display P3 and Rec. 2020 colour spaces for .cube import. Both are offered next to sRGB, Adobe RGB and ProPhoto RGB, and RAWmakase reads Display P3 and Rec. 2020 tables in Adobe profiles. (#709, #672)
- Canon CR3 in-camera ratings and titles. The XMP a camera embeds in a CR3 is read when you add a folder and on Read Metadata from Files…. (#705, #680)
Improved
- Renaming and moving many photos is much faster. Renaming a large selection no longer freezes the app, either while the dialog plans the names or on each keystroke. Renames and moves within a drive run in batches. A plan of 1500 photos in one folder took 148 s on a local SSD before; planning is now linear in the number of photos. (#689, #696, #681, #692)
- Faster RAW decoding. Nikon NEF (Huffman), Pentax PEF, Samsung SRW and lossless JPEG files (CR2, sRAW/mRAW, DNG, ARW and others) decode on all CPU threads, with results identical to before. (#722)
- The Crop tool stays open when you move to another photo, as in Lightroom. A photo with a crop shows its own aspect; an uncropped one takes the aspect you last chose as one undoable edit. (#727, #690, #686)
- Brush strokes keep your overlay choice. Painting and erasing no longer switch Show Overlay back on after you turned it off with
O. (#703) - A more consistent interface. Spacing, type sizes, greys and corner radii now come from one set of design tokens, and the Library and Develop share the same photo and status insets. The Keyboard Shortcuts sheet stays inside its window and has a search, Preferences has a top bar, sidebar icons and section cards, and the Report an Issue dialog is tidier. (#728, #726, #723)
- Camera EXIF in exports of more formats. Exports of Canon CR3 and Minolta MRW keep the camera's own EXIF (GPS, artist, copyright, capture times and more), and CRW exports carry their capture date. Sigma X3F photos show their camera, lens and exposure in the Library. (#682, #684)
Fixed
- Windows 10 PCs with Intel graphics no longer exit silently at launch. RAWmakase now uses DirectX 12 on Windows instead of Vulkan, falling back to OpenGL. Setting
WGPU_BACKENDstill overrides this. (#698, #623) - Double-clicking the macOS title bar zooms the window reliably. On a Force Touch trackpad it sometimes started a drag or snapped straight back. (#699, #729, #616)
- Windows remembers a maximized window instead of reopening it at the default size. (#706, #553)
- A folder moved to another drive shows under that drive in the Folders panel, after Locate this folder…. (#687, #678)
- Your camera's Creator and Copyright are kept. Photos added from folders no longer have a CR3's, MRW's or X3F's own Creator and Copyright replaced by the Preferences defaults. (#683)
- Imported Lightroom keywords no longer show as
> Name. The catalog's hidden root keyword is hidden, so typing a keyword no longer creates a duplicate beside it. (#712, #710)
Removed
- The usage stats report. The app no longer asks about or sends the weekly report to stats.rawmakase.com. (#688)
Upgrade notes
- Saved file-name templates are stored in
filename_templates.jsonin the data folder. Older releases ignore the file.
