RAWmakase 0.4.8 replaces the Navigator with tools that sit on the photo: an Aperture-style magnifier, a zoom slider and a minimap. The Library gains Lightroom-style folder stacks, including Auto-Stack by Capture Time and stacks imported from Lightroom catalogs. Positive Shadows and negative Highlights now follow Camera Raw more closely on most photos, and camera profiles that share a name and camera can each be chosen.

New

  • Folder stacks. Group into Stack (Cmd/Ctrl+G) turns the selected photos into one collapsed stack, with the active photo on top and a count badge. Press S, or click the badge, to collapse or expand it. The thumbnail menu's Stacking submenu also has Unstack (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+G), Remove from Stack, Move to Top of Stack (Shift+S) and Collapse/Expand All Stacks. All Photographs and folders show stacks; collections list photos one by one, as in Lightroom. Each change is one Undo step. (#732)
  • Auto-Stack by Capture Time… stacks consecutive photos in the same folder that were taken less than an interval apart, which you set with a slider (up to one hour). The dialog shows how many stacks it would make. (#732)
  • Lightroom import brings folder stacks, with their tops and collapse state. Collection stacks aren't imported. (#732)
  • Magnifier. Shift+Z, or the magnifier button in the toolbar, shows a lens that follows the pointer over the fitted photo in Develop and the Library's Loupe. It shows the area under it at 100%, 200% or 400%; choose the level from the toolbar menu or with the mouse wheel. In Develop it shows your edit. (#739)
  • Zoom slider and minimap. Develop's toolbar and the Library Loupe's have a zoom slider from Fit to 1600%. When part of the photo is out of view, a minimap appears over it: click or drag it to move the view, or drag its grip to another corner. Cmd/Ctrl+= and Cmd/Ctrl+− zoom in and out, stopping at 100% and at Fit; Cmd/Ctrl+0 zooms to 100% and Cmd/Ctrl+1 fits the photo. (#739)

Improved

  • Shadows and Highlights closer to Camera Raw. Positive Shadows and negative Highlights now use a curve computed from each photo's histogram. In our tests against Camera Raw 18.7, Highlights −100 and Shadows +100 got closer on most test sets. Very dark photos with small bright lights can still differ. Other sliders render as before. (#733)
  • The histogram is always at the top of Develop's right panel, in its own card. (#739)
  • Side panel headers line up. Develop's Presets and adjustment section headers now start at the same height, and the gaps between sections are slightly tighter. (#730)

Fixed

  • Camera profiles that share a name and camera can each be chosen. Before, the Profile menu showed only the first of them. Each now appears, with its file name in the title, for example Camera Neutral (Z.dcp). Exact duplicates are still hidden, and saved edits keep using the same profile. (#735, #734)

Removed

  • The Navigator panel, in Develop and the Library; the magnifier, zoom slider and minimap take its place. Pinned panels are also gone. (#739)

Upgrade notes

  • Stacks are stored in the catalog with no format change, so earlier releases still open it; they show the photos unstacked.

Thanks to @adambuchweitz for the camera profile report (#734).
