The second release of the native Android ARM64 port of Unreal Tournament 3 adds optional texture conversion, more flexible touch controls, OpenSpy compatibility and save/profile fixes.

Changes

  • Added optional ASTC/ETC2 texture conversion in the launcher, including games played directly from stored ZIP archives. Original packages are retained; runtime DXT decoding remains available for cache misses and mods.
  • Added a touch layout editor to move, resize and hide individual controls. Hold the on-screen Pause button to open it; a short tap opens the original pause menu.
  • Expanded touch settings with a fixed joystick, weapon tap/swipe selection, separate weapon bar/wheel sizes, control visibility, movement while holding primary fire and horizontal gyro reversal.
  • Added OpenSpy service and authentication compatibility, and fixed a registry-call crash during online play.
  • Prevented startup defaults from overwriting saved profiles and campaign progress before sign-in. Fixed creation of save directories beneath virtual ZIP folders.
  • Improved menu and HUD scaling, tab captions, button touch targets and command-menu selection. Tapping an editable text field now opens the Android keyboard after the game handles the click.
  • Improved Scorpion steering with an axial dead zone while retaining analog throttle. Vehicle seat controls now show available seats and permitted swaps, and stay hidden in single-seat vehicles.
  • Restored graphics quality presets, added FPS choices based on the display's supported refresh rates, and selected an available localization automatically on first start.
  • Improved launcher texture-scan progress, stale-result handling and retry after read failures. Pinned astc-encoder and etcpak as upstream Git submodules; source copies are no longer stored in the main repository.

Requirements

  • Android 11 or newer, ARM64 and OpenGL ES 3.2.
  • Your own Steam-version game files: Binaries, Engine and UTGame, in a folder or a supported ZIP archive. The APK does not include game files.
  • DXVK requires a suitable Vulkan 1.3 driver with BC texture support; the Turnip renderer targets Adreno 6xx/7xx.
  • An OpenSpy account is required for online play.

The APK uses the same signing certificate as 0.1-dev. VersionCode 5 also allows updates over the intervening internal 0.2/0.3/0.4 builds.

Known limitations

  • A stable 60 FPS at native display resolution is not reached on the tested devices.
  • OpenSpy account creation and every server/mod combination have not been verified. No full campaign mission was completed during save-fix validation.
  • The final release package was verified on the host and was not retested on a device after the submodule conversion.

First public build of the Android ARM64 port of Unreal Tournament 3: the PC game statically recompiled to native code, with a Win32 / Direct3D 9 compatibility host. The APK contains no game files; it needs the files of the Steam version: https://store.steampowered.com/app/13210/Unreal_Tournament_3/

What's in it

  • Renderers: OpenGL ES 3.2 (works on every device), DXVK on the system Vulkan 1.3 driver, and DXVK on Mesa Turnip for Adreno 6xx/7xx, with the bundled driver or your own adrenotools driver package (Own driver… in the launcher). A driver check in a separate process shows which renderers can run on the device.
  • Launcher: game files from a folder or a ZIP archive; a ZIP stored without compression plays in place. English, Russian, German and Polish.
  • The game's PE images are made at start from its own Binaries folder and checked against the build; the Visual C++ 2005 runtime is built in. No separately prepared image files are needed.
  • Touch controls: analog stick, swipe look, weapon bar, vehicle profiles, an editable layout and an optional gyroscope. Physical gamepads work with the original bindings and rumble.
  • Hor+ widescreen camera, a phone-sized interface and an ANDROID tab in the original settings menu.
  • LAN games with the PC version, both ways. Bink movies with sound, skippable by a tap or a gamepad button.

Requirements

  • Android 11 or newer, 64-bit ARM, OpenGL ES 3.2.
  • DXVK (Vulkan): a Vulkan 1.3 driver with BC texture support. DXVK (Turnip): Adreno 6xx/7xx.
  • The Binaries, Engine and UTGame folders of the Steam version (about 9.3 GB), copied to the device or packed into a ZIP archive.
  • Permissions: all files access; local network for LAN games.

Known limitations

  • A stable 60 FPS at the display's native resolution is not reached on the tested phones.
  • The original game's online services are not available.
  • This build does not install over the earlier test builds (version 0.8.x): uninstall those first, which removes the port's settings and saves in Android/data/org.ut3.port.
  • The minimum amount of RAM has not been measured. Tested on Google Pixel 10a, Google Pixel 10 and a Snapdragon 870 phone (Adreno 650).
