Run plix check file.px first; it separates source diagnostics from runtime and linker issues.

Category	Usual cause	First action
Type mismatch	incompatible inferred or declared values	add an annotation and inspect the expression types
Borrow/ownership error	conflicting mutable or immutable access	shorten the borrow or choose own, &, or &mut deliberately
Unresolved symbol	misspelled name or missing module	check spelling, scope, and imports
Invalid pattern	pattern does not match the value shape	compare the pattern with the value definition
Linker error	missing host C linker or native dependency	install platform build tools; retry plix build
Python FFI error	Python/extension ABI or package unavailable	verify Python prerequisites and the FFI guide

Keep a minimal reproducer and test it with both run and build. Do not treat a compiler diagnostic as a runtime failure.
