Far Far VR v0.4.20 — OpenXR pose recovery
- Far Far West's D3D12 OpenXR path can now refresh the pose for a late frame using that frame's own render snapshot. The newer frame counter and game-thread tracking state stay intact.
- The patch applies when submission trails by one or two frames and the queued stereo snapshot still matches. It keeps the existing recovery path for other cases.
A headset playthrough of the candidate showed fewer recurring stale-pose warnings and the player reported smoother performance. The sessions used different maps and graphics settings, so they do not establish an FPS gain.
Existing installs can download the update under Updates. Close the game and reopen the launcher to install it. For a fresh install, extract the complete FarFarVR-v0.4.20.zip and open Far Far VR.exe.
Far Far VR v0.4.19 - First-launch profile setup fix
Far Far VR v0.4.19 - First-launch profile setup fix
Fixes issue #4, where an update check could create an updater-only profile folder and prevent START IN VR from completing first-time setup.
- Update checks now wait until the VR profile is installed before writing headset update-status files.
- First-time setup recognizes folders containing only the launcher's update-status files, preserves a backup, and installs the complete bundled profile. Unknown files and existing player profiles retain their protection.
- If installation fails after moving the old folder, setup attempts to restore it automatically.
Includes the same native runtime and gameplay features as v0.4.18, including its performance improvements and optional diagnostics. Existing player settings and bindings are preserved.
Fresh install: extract the complete FarFarVR-v0.4.19.zip and open Far Far VR.exe with the game closed. Existing users can use Updates to download the release, then close the game and reopen the launcher to install it. No manual profile deletion is required for the updater-only folder problem.
Validation: launcher and regression-project builds, package integrity and privacy inspection, and GitHub automated checks. Local test suites and game/headset sessions were not run for this release; in-app update and first-launch acceptance remain for player testing.
Far Far VR v0.4.18 — Performance fixes and optional diagnostics
Fixes two sources of unnecessary rendering work while preserving the complete cumulative mod. Player testing of the local candidate reported significantly better performance.
- Stereo upscaler ownership: prepares an independent secondary view family for the second eye using the supported game build's native copy/destruction routines. This removes the repeated DLSS temporal-upscaler ownership collision seen with the previous shared-family submission. Runtime guards retain the existing path if the game image/layout is unsupported.
- Blank effects redraws: limits initialization retries for an empty effects texture when native acknowledgement is unavailable. Visible effects keep their normal updates, and original effects remain available until the independent layer is ready.
- Optional Diagnostics page: adds performance/hitch capture, detailed frame tracing, live log detail and a Turn off diagnostics button to the Far Far VR menu. Capture options default off. Detailed tracing enables the information logging it needs; diagnostic files remain local. Turn captures off after troubleshooting.
Keeps the earlier render-thread memory-validation optimization, independent crosshair and effects layers, original artwork/animations, controls, calibration, comfort, settings separation, updater and shutdown behavior. Existing player graphics settings and bindings are preserved.
Validation: native and launcher builds; 112 automated profile checks; 29 runtime delivery checks; memory-probe regression checks; unchanged executable GPU shader programs; package integrity/privacy checks; live local menu/lobby checks and subsequent player performance testing. Improvement is player-reported on the tested setup; no fixed frame-rate or universal long-session/audio guarantee is made.
Fresh install: extract the complete FarFarVR-v0.4.18.zip and open Far Far VR.exe with the game closed. Existing users can use Updates. The separate runtime delta is a verified setup component; it is not the complete playable package.
Far Far VR v0.4.17
Far Far VR v0.4.17
Removes normal HUD/effects status-file reporting added during recent repairs. Crosshair stereo-view callbacks no longer build status messages or write status files. Effects callbacks no longer poll their render target for diagnostic reporting. Error recovery and in-menu health information remain.
Retains the complete v0.4.16 native backend and runtime delta, including the earlier render-thread memory-validation optimization. Crosshair targeting, private textures, original animated effects, controls, settings, calibration and all other gameplay modules remain unchanged.
The temporary hitch-capture setting enabled during investigation was restored to its original disabled state before any game launch. No additional monitoring is included.
No local test suites or game/headset sessions were run. Static source and package inspection establish removal of this reporting work; they do not establish that the reported progressive slowdown or audio stutter is fully resolved.
Fresh install: extract the complete FarFarVR-v0.4.17.zip and open Far Far VR.exe with the game closed. Existing users can use Updates.
Far Far VR v0.4.16
Far Far VR v0.4.16
Restores the missing in-game controls-guide image identified by reviewing GitHub deletion history and the native image lookup paths. The profile now includes textures/farfarvr_controls.jpg, and existing-profile updates copy the JPG as well as any PNG.
Retains the complete v0.4.15 code, including its launcher module-loading correction, independent crosshair layer and effects resource initialization repair. No gameplay module or engine is replaced with an older release.
No local test suites or game/headset sessions were run. Headset behavior remains unconfirmed.
Fresh install: extract the complete FarFarVR-v0.4.16.zip and open Far Far VR.exe with the game closed.
Far Far VR v0.4.15
Far Far VR v0.4.15
Includes the cumulative v0.4.14 independent crosshair layer and effects texture initialization repair, plus the launcher correction found during source review.
- Verify the actual requested module after loading openxr_loader.dll or UEVRBackend.dll. Previously the shared loader always checked for the backend, producing a false preload failure warning for OpenXR even when that library loaded.
- Retain the v0.4.14 native backend, crosshair, effects, controls, objectives, comfort, riding, menus, settings separation, updater, shutdown and security changes.
No local test suites or game/headset sessions were run. Package comparisons establish delivery contents only; headset behavior remains unconfirmed.

Separate crosshair and effects rendering
The v0.4.13 wearer report confirmed that gun tracking worked, but the crosshair disappeared outside the information HUD texture. Moving artwork inside that texture could not remove its clipping boundary.
- Restore a dedicated 256x256 crosshair compositor texture, separate from the information HUD. Crosshair, hit X and shield-hit artwork share this private texture.
- Retain the firing-camera calculation confirmed in v0.4.13. Submit its headset-local target directly in OpenXR view space, without projecting into the information HUD or changing HUD settings.
- Initialize the SDK render-resource lookup before reading private widget GPU textures. The prior crosshair and effects paths could read the lookup before it was initialized; the Far Far scene route can supply native textures directly without establishing this optional UTexture lookup.
- Keep the existing full-view dash/damage/healing/shield compositor and correct its shared texture prerequisite. Resource discovery retries are bounded.
- Retain cumulative controls, objectives, riding, comfort, resolution, launcher, settings separation, shutdown and security changes.
No local test suites or game/headset sessions were run by the agent. Build and package inspections do not establish wearer acceptance. Crosshair visibility beyond the HUD and full-view effects remain unconfirmed in the headset.
Install or update
Close Far Far West and the launcher. Extract the complete FarFarVR-v0.4.14.zip for a fresh install, or use the launcher's Updates button. First setup reconstructs the new matching native backend; copying only the Lua script is insufficient.

Crosshair correction
This release corrects the crosshair aiming change introduced in v0.4.12 using the earlier wearer-accepted implementation as the reference.
- Drawn weapons use the game firing camera location and forward direction, sampled per stereo view, matching the camera properties used by F_TraceBullet before spread.
- Restore selection of the local player viewport HUD instead of accepting nested or ownerless copies.
- Retain tracked-hand aiming for empty hands, original animated crosshair and hit artwork, and the cumulative engine, controls, comfort, launcher, settings, shutdown and security updates.
Known issue
Dash and other full-view effects remain unresolved. This release does not claim to fix the effects compositor handoff.
No local test suites or game/headset sessions were run by the agent. Packaging and file comparisons establish delivery contents only; headset behavior remains unconfirmed.
Install or update

Crosshair and effects handoff
The v0.4.11 shader-container correction did not resolve the reported fresh-install symptom: crosshair and dash artwork remained on the ordinary HUD. This release changes the replacement paths themselves.
- Accept attached gameplay HUD widgets without an explicitly assigned player owner, including nested HUD widgets.
- With controller aiming selected, project crosshair and hit artwork from the selected tracked-hand aim anchor instead of the render camera, which can already contain the headset-view override.
- Explicitly enable the private effects component's offscreen rendering and wake deferred rendering with RequestRenderUpdate where supported. Retry offscreen warmup at a bounded interval until the compositor acknowledges it.
- Preserve original effects until the independent compositor acknowledges the replacement.
- Record the actual HUD discovery or effects handoff stage in the existing status files, rather than retaining only a title-camera or headset-inactive message.
The native engine, shader repair, controls, comfort, resolution, settings separation, shutdown and security changes are retained. No local tests or game/headset sessions were run by the agent. Live headset behavior remains to be confirmed.
Install or update

Graphics repair
Corrects a v0.4.10 privacy-cleanup error: two embedded compiled graphics shaders had metadata edited without their container checksums being updated. This release updates those checksums while retaining the sanitized paths.
The correction to the v0.4.10 native binary is limited to the two 16-byte shader checksums. Native executable sections and shader program chunks match the pre-cleanup engine. Gameplay Lua scripts, crosshair and effects implementations, controls, menu layout, live resolution saves, shutdown changes and updater/security improvements are retained.
Install or update
Use the desktop launcher's Updates button, or download and extract FarFarVR-v0.4.11.zip. Close Far Far West before installing. The next launch installs the corrected runtime automatically.
The launcher and delivery delta were rebuilt. No local test suite, game launch or headset test was run for this repair.
