Tack v0.2.1
Tack 0.2.1
A shown board no longer polls the pointer: Tack is told when the pointer leaves it, so nothing wakes while the board is down.
Two small behaviour changes come with it:
- An edge-revealed board lingers briefly (1.2 to 3 seconds, depending on your speed) so you can reach it.
- A board opened from the tray tucks after the pointer has visited it and left.
Download the installer for your PC below and run it. Tack starts at the top of your screen; its icon is in the tray.
- x64-setup.exe: most PCs (Intel and AMD).
- arm64-setup.exe: PCs with an ARM processor, such as a Snapdragon X laptop.
Windows 10 or 11. The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may ask: choose More info › Run anyway. On 0.2.0, Tack offers this update itself in Settings.
Tack v0.2.0
Tack 0.2.0
Make it yours, make it faster, and keep itself up to date.
New
- Settings. One window from the tray icon: sound, edge reveal, start with Windows, speed, appearance, your shortcuts (edited right there), the phone link and updates. The board stays open while Settings is focused so you can see what you change.
- Choose how fast it moves. Instant, Normal or Slow. It applies to everything: the drop, the tuck, new snips flying in, hover motion.
- Colour and finish. Pick the felt (Green, Navy, Charcoal, Burgundy, Plum, Teal, Slate, your Windows accent, or any colour), the frame (Alloy, Graphite, Brass, Silver) and the paper your notes are written on (White, Cream, Butter, Blush, Sky, Mint). The felt now has a real fibre texture.
- Updates. Tack checks GitHub once when it starts (you can turn that off in Settings) and offers new versions. One click installs, and every update is signed: Tack refuses any that isn't.
Changed
- Reveal only in the middle of the top edge. Corners no longer trigger it. Dragging a file from Explorer to the edge works.
- Text notes open in Notepad, like screenshots open in their viewer.
- Much quieter in the background. While tucked, Tack wakes about 0.6 times a second (0.1.1: about 54), no timers run, and the exe is smaller (5.5 MB).
- Copy no longer re-encodes a PNG.
Good to know
- Edits or deletes of Tack's own files made outside Tack show the next time the board opens.
- Tack now goes online for one thing: asking GitHub whether a new version exists. Details in docs/privacy.md.
Upgrading from 0.1.x keeps your board. From here on Tack updates itself.
